LGB 20980

That wouldn't really worry me, not being too much of a "real thing" fanatic and rivet counter.... but I wonder if that part just MIGHT be a separate moulding, that you could pop off, repaint and refit the other way round?

Jon.
It's a separate part, glued in to place. Rather easy to remove, so should be no problem. It's a shame though. People have been complaining about it ever since the first prototype model (more than a year ago), but still they didn't do it right :wits:

Yes Alec, much more palettable at imported EUR prices, which is a shame for the UK shops, but the price will be set by the distributor and Marklin one presumes? The black DR one due around Christmas is more of interest for me, easier to badge up EJ&KLR.

£635 RRP in the UK, would I buy it at that price, er probably not, best UK price seems to be £510 ish, still too much for an 0-6-0, but at £440 from the EU one will probably be purchased soon.

Yep, Modell-Land are not actually showing it as available yet, but they are quoting a price of around 569 Euros, which presently converts to about £447. Even with £15-£20 shipping on top, still a much more acceptable price. Like James, I will most likely wait for one of the black ones.

mmmh, you know.... this is not a "LGB" model, built on Nurmberg factory, this is a "M-LGB" model...built ehere? I look very carefully anywhere on model and box, not finding the sign "made in..."...may be I'm so stupid... btw I suppose it comes from Hungary

the model is nice, I like it, maybe price is a little bit high, but I think you'll can find soon discount everywhere in Germany

Don't know why in german forum-sites there aro no pics of the model, I think we's just been lucky to get it and post pictures on our web site first

ciao, Paolo
Even during the last 10 years of Lehmann a lot of the models labled "Made in Germany" were actually only assemble by Lehmann from kits of parts imported from China and Eastern Europe.

Got the nod from Harvey at The Hobby Shop in Faversham that he has a Saxon IK ready and waiting for me.

Probably go and collect it on Saturday. Another incentive to get track power back to the EG&SNNR.......

Nice, looking forward to seeing pics of it, Keith!

Dare I ask how much yours is costing?

Is it being given DCC and sound, or just left analogue?

Jon.

I must say that I like the looks of it. Chunky and compact. Sort of like the little Spremberger loco. The price, however, is another story. :crying:

As mentioned earlier this evening I made an early morning bus trip over to Faversham to collect my Saxon 1K from the Hobby Shop. As requested have taken a few pics:

I think the loco looks quite good with the Sachsen coach set that LGB produced a couple of months ago. I think they make a change from the DR/DB dark green coaches:

Not having any analogue track power available all testing will be done indoors on the rollers:

As purchased the loco is analogue but the intention is to install dcc sound at a later date. It annoys me that LGB still not provide information on how to get the loco open in the instruction booklet. All they say is "the model is equipped with a digital interface to install a 3amp DCC decoder. Remove the plug on the decoder interface and connect the decoder. We recommend to use the MTS Decoder III, the plug of which directly fits into the socket interface. We recommend to have the decoder mounted by the LGB factory station."

There is no mention either of space for a speaker being incorporated. Maybe that will have to go in the cab.....

The loco does not feel particulary heavy so wonder how many bogie coaches it will be able to take up my mountains and spirals - something I'll find out next year.

....as mentioned by Nemo the valve chest covers need changing.....

One thing that did surprise me is that the loco came with a large 50ml plastic bottle Marklin/Trix/LGB smoke fluid - not the little bottle that normally came with LGB locomotives.

.....and to answer Zerogee's question about how much I paid - more than Dragon G-Scale's price but slightly less than Glendale's and Garden Railway Centre's prices - and as I collected the loco myself I paid nothing for shipping (and as I went buy bus using my wrinkly pass that cost me nothing - no diesel or parking charges for the car if I had gone by car).

At the moment I like what I've got. Yes, it's ugly but in funny sort of way it's beautiful. It looks different, a bit cumbersome but its chunky, powerfull looking......

Think that's all to say at the moment......

Thanks for the pics, Keith - actually it's growing on me, might have to start hunting on eBay.de if I weaken any further....
What's the black beast behind the 1K in your last two pics? Is it a live steamie?

Jon.

Jon,

It's a rare beast in the UK - an electric version of the Austrian Mh6 Engerth live steam model by Regner - one of five (as far as I know) imported into the UK. 798.03 has the OBB version and another guy we know has two (one of each version) and somebody unknown has the other:

The loco came as a kit and was badly built by the builder working for the UK importer. The kit was returned to Regner for some defective paintwork to be rectified, rebuilt and remotored by WPandY of this parish to whom I am eternaly grateful. So far the loco has only run on the garden railway of the Romney Marsh Model Engineering Society where it was photographed above.

Once I pull my finger out I'll get round to fitting the Zimo sound decoder I've got for the loco. Wonder which will get done first - the Mh6 or the Sachsen 1K:confused::thinking:...........

About the rather overly stout drive, is it metal or plastic on the model? I could see them making them more chunky if they were plastic to prevent breakage, but not if they were metal. The posting with the real and model photos really make the difference as apparent as a hammer/thumb combination.

Thanks Keith, that's a lovely loco - so I was half-right in guessing live steam, it looked that way from the cylinders and motion.
I've often wondered about the electric conversions of live steam models that Accucraft offer - especially their rather odd-looking but fascinating Saxon IIIK - I gather that a German dealer builds (or re-builds) the electric ones to special order?
Does anyone on here actually have one, or have experience of one?

Jon.

Hmmmmm! I quite like those Sachsen coaches.

Catalogue No?

Cheers James, actually I thought I'd found what I was sure was them later, and that agrees.

Catalog = US spelling. (O.E.D.). The other one is "proper". (Sorry, ex-editor coming out again  )

keith
your new loco and those scahsen coaches make a beautiful train indeed!
thanks for the pics

Great loco and coaches Keith. Its a pretty old original for modelling by usual standards - maybe thats why it looks a bit odd. Coaches in those matt colours are brill.

Interesting thread.

As for cars, one can wonder if a two axle Saxon post wagon would not be far in the future? A link to the technomodell H0e one here:

I was still hoping for the 0-4-0 Vulcan / Lenz Typ I, (the loco that sat in front of the factory) LGB had test shots before the bankruptcy, makes one wonder the story behind it...
