LGB Mogul....drooping pilot

Thanks Tim, I tried what you suggested, and one rod is the correct length but needed some tweaking, and the other was just too long, so I made a replacement from brass rod.
I didn't want to introduce any more downward force.

I think the front spring on the pony truck will have to go as the clearances are now just too tight for uneven track ( as mine can be when loose laid on the lawn )

Now to find/make the cosmetic bits that are missing, the small pilot mounted hand stanchions ( flag poles ), the 'steering wheel' for the pony truck dummy spring, and a pipe underneath the locos cab.

Malcolm,
the gold flags are like hen's teeth. There is thus a big demand for them. Follow the link to Joe Hylva in the States. He is a LGB guru and always has LGB spare parts listed. He rarely does 'Buy it Now' so most of his items are auction listings. Always very fair and resonable with shipping. I have purchased from him for years.

The plow 'handle' on the footplate is part of the chassis moulding. Joe also lists these occasionally.

if the stock LGB stancheons are too rare or dear-
i have purchased Trackside Details stancheons-
the are real brass, much shorter, but are hollow so that they can actually hold flags,
-theses short stancheons fit, look superb, are actually closer to prototype and are readily available at a decent price-best of all , they dont break

Bachmann Mogul and American 4-4-0 locos also come with spare brass flag poles which can be used in the LGB loco.

I just popped in to see what your solution was... I think it's quite possible that somebody at LGB may have designed the pilot attach, then realized there was an interference with the pony truck - and instead of trying to reconfigure, just shaved away at the bracket until the truck cleared - resulting in a very thin (and easily cracked/broken) cross-section.
I've got a broken one here, appears to have snapped right off, and was "kinda sorta" fixed by a previous owner... I'm inclining towards shaving the whole mess off and re-attaching the pilot with two pieces of .060" x 1/4" brass strap bent into an L shape
