For those looking for the new items from LGB for 2011, a bit more patience is needed. Last year the new items were revealed halfway january, hopefully this year a bit sooner.

There are rumors about a Saxon narrow gauge loco, but don't have a clue if it's true.

I'll keep you updated.

Maybe the Lenz Typ-i from 2006?

Cool if the IK leak is correct, thank you DR!

A very pretty loco IMHO apart from the Heberlein brake wheels on chimney and cab roof.

Let's hope that Marklin's exit from insolvency this week enables them to get motoring and produce stuff in a timely manner and - most importantly in a recession - at a sensible price.

Whenever the new items are released, we can be sure that good old LGB will be over priced, as usual. The company should remember that they make PLASTIC models from moulds.

I do hope Piko and the US brands give them a run for their money......

That looks like a lovely prototype - we'll see how much they end up being... with the Accucraft electric W&L coming in under £900 for a brass model it will be interesting to see how much LGB/Marklin want for a similar sized plastic model :)

hmmmmmm, i beg to differ...... they cant even find it in themselves to put metal wheels on their models. Bachmann can, with more detail, and a snip of the price. And for the fact that LGB is supposedly better quality plastic, that will survive been dropped............. im prepared to try not dropping the models if it cuts the prices.

The IIk picture above is a HOe model, made by Sachsenmodell.

Most Saxon prototypes ran on 750 mm rail. So in 1 : 22,5 they have approx 33 mm gauge. In the past, LGB released most 750/760 protos in approx 1 : 18/19 scale with 45mm gauge.

Have Fun

I word this carefully.
I, in a totally personal opinion, am fed up with people moaning about the price of things.
Without going into detail, we all know you can get cheap or quality.
It is a totally personal decision as to what you buy - but please see the difference.
I am very pleased to see a wide range of products on the market.

I would rather not fly RyanAir but do see the economy and do use them. but I accept the limited service!

Nicely put and yes, let's have as many products available as possible.
That said, every individual has their own concept of what is a reasonable (or affordable) price. Quality is certainly worth paying for, but only if the price asked matches the value of that degree of quality to the person - in other words, is the price perceived to give value for money?

By the way, having used them once, I won't touch Ryanair with a bargepole!

Steady on there. I understand your comments but

You pays your money and you takes your choice. All companies live or die by getting the right product in the market at the right time and the right price and it is up to them to get it right based upon their cost base and their market intelligence.

Personal view (as all of these are) is that LGB is on the expensive side and this was a significant factor in my choice to go American. For example Aristo RDC 3 list price in the uk - £294. This has two power bogies, lights, interior and smoke unit. The Rhb railcar is £659 at Dragon or £1,135 with sound and dcc chip. I would say these are roughly comparable although the LGB railcar has got better interior detail but you don't get close enough to see it in the garden. The thing is though, now I have gone American, LGB have lost me as a potential customer forever.

At least the mechanicals of LGB locos are pretty much rock solid (based upon what others have told me). The newer Bachmannn Spectrum locos are very expensive and whilst they are very nicely detailed I am not convinced they are mechanically solid at all. The only one I've had dropped a significant amount of brake gear and a few steps on its first couple of runs out. I will not be in a rush to buy any more. I have quite a few Bachmann wagons (of the cheap and cheerful type) and have replaced plastic wheels on other stock with Bachmann metal wheels - all have been perfectly round.

It is wrong to assume that LGB are always the most expensive - USAT wagons are more expensive than the equivilent LGB American wagons in the UK.

Well MLGB can?t be more detailed than LGB as 90% of the moulds are LGB. In my view LGB made a loss for a reason, but when it was in the old ownership it was cheaper, (of course exchange rates helped) was of a better quality, German made and had fantastic back up. My first purchase under new ownership was three Rad 3 points which had the tabs failing off them. These had to go back to the shop at my own cost- not bought anything new since.?
I think its fair to say you can?t compare some things across brands (metal wheels for example) and no way can you compare some of the highly detailed brass models to LGB plastic ones! Personally I don?t like the way Marklin have taken the LGB brand, selling plastic and brass prices?. From speaking to retailers the LGB stuff is not selling like it used to. However, this is going off the topic as most LGB posts do. As I say I?ve stopped buying LGB new. Partly as my collection is such I don?t really need to and partly because I think it?s over priced for what is- i.e a toy. Now that?s my view, that?s my railway and at the end of the day no matter how detailed I build my models it?s the way I relax and play trains. I take building things seriously and am a perfectionist but still play trains. And on that note ill grab me coat?.
