Holy cow! And I though the whole G scale thing was confusing!
Ok, let me see if I'm reading this correctly, 5/16" is available as a hollow externally threaded tube. 5/16" is equivalent to 7.9 mm which could be about right. It has 27 threads to the inch which give a thread pitch of 0.94 mm, which is just a tad finer than a 1 mm standard metric fine pitch.
If my calculations are correct that should be worth a try if I can find any in the UK. Alsso there are M7 and M8 lamp tubes avaialble in Hong Kong, but seemlyly not in GB.
This may have to wait as we now have a confirmed moving date in November, so the 'findathread' is going to have to wait until we're settled into the new house.
