LGB R5 Points

The mystery is solved. I had assumed it was a curved track from looking at the PIKO points. If I had checked the preformed plastic packing in the box, I would have seen that the missing track is straight and not curved and this is confirmed by the exploded view on the LGB site. Thanks

Just checked the length of the straight section and it is 600mm so the missing section cannot be for that purpose. Any other ideas please?IMG_5064.JPG

Just a random thought (which may be totally wrong of course) - is the short extra track piece intended for when you build a crossover with two R5 points facing each other, in order to get the spacing between the parallel tracks correct? I just wonder if the fact that the curved leg of the R5 point is only 15 degrees might otherwise make the track spacing too close?

Jon.

OK, in that case I give up! ;)

Will be very interested to see if anyone actually has the right answer......

That is how I use mine and it works. Without it the track spacing would be too close together.

I use radius 5 without the extension track and no problems with big american stuff

or, just read the manual.

"18050 and 18150 “R5” Manual Switches In some track configurations, the ties of track sections attached an R5 switch will interfere with each other. If this occurs, use the 150 mm straight track section included with each R5 manual switch. To fit the section, you can cut the ties as needed along the line molded on the underside of the ties. 150 mm straight track sections are also available separately (10150)."

The track spacing without using the 'extension pieces is spot on when doing a crossover.
I suspect that, if using a single point/switch and to bring the two tracks back to parallel, the 'extension would help with one or other of the fixed curves available and enable the spacing to remain as it should..

Could you please direct me to this manual?
