A model like this presumably has two motors. But what if one motor is more powerful than the other?
Its no different to all the other two motored locos out there. the mallets, mayers, shays, and a lot of the deisels and electrics. Doesn't seem to be a problem. I would assume that most motors of a reasonable standard are going to be pretty much similar.

....and when they are chipped, the back emf takes care of minor speed differences........

XLS on the way from Muns for the IIK - has a double chuff rate......ooer missus.:)
Just need the snow to melt - still a foot deep here on the Linz Gstadt Bahn.

Might be a bit of a tight squeeze to get the XLS inside either of the loco bodies, Paul - I barely managed to get an LS into my 1K. May have to go in the cab(s)?

Is the B loco "slaved" to the A, with all the electronics and interface board being in the A?

When I chipped my black 1K, there was JUST enough room to fix the LS right on top of the speaker, just ahead of the factory circuit board. The Micro Powercap that Muns had wired to the LS for me was squeezed into various spaces (one bit in the smokebox and the other two in the firebox as I recall - good thing they are made up from the 3 little modules wired together with enough lead length for tricks like that). The 10pin plug (again, Muns had been very kind in soldering the 10-wire loom directly to the LS for me) then connects to the socket on the factory board. All very, very tight in there!

As promised, some comparison pics of the two different versions of the 1K - black and green.

A few notes:
1) Both are missing all their Heberlein brake pulleys and fittings, as I've unplugged them and put them away safely till I've finished messing about with the locos (installing decoders etc). These fittings are quite fragile and vulnerable when turning the locos over to take them apart, The fittings on both locos are identical, so their absence for these comparison shots is irrelevant.
2) the black DR loco does come with matt gold rings for the lamps, again these are safely put away, as are the drivers (who will get replaced by either Bachmann Scenecraft, Preiser or even Prehm metal ones).
3) Note the valve chest covers as discussed at length in previous posts, right way round on the black one but wrong on the green!
4) Major differences - completely different cab, plus the funnels and the steam fitting on top of the boiler.

Both pretty locos, in my opinion - I couldn't really decide between them, which is probably why I've ended up with both... ;)

Thanks Jon - it's nice to see them both together, I had pondered getting one of the black ones, but actually I think I prefer the outline of the green one (cab roof and chimney).

Paul
Are we likely to see it/them at St Alban's in the near future?
