Lionel Vs MRC Transformers

Looks like a noise filter, with selective "strength" for DCC, some DCC installations get "noise" at the end of a track segment.

Yep, the new owner is a good guy and very upfront at Bridgewerks. I agree with his assessment that the load from the passenger cars will "tame" any possible overvoltage excursions.

Ah! Thanks for the info. I was just curious if that would be of any use in one of my Piko locos with their Soundtraxx made sound systems.

Passive implies resistor/inductor/capacitors, but no transistor/mofets.
Sierra soundtraxx of old would go to full speed due to the PWC/PWM power supply pulses. The passive filter filtered out the output to a DC level.
Aristo called this a linear filter module.
 
Chris: That's the MRC transformer that I was going to purchase before I found the Bridgewerks Mini_Mag 3-S. And the hobby website that I found the MRC on was way cheaper priced for theirs than the one on Ebay is:$148.00 with free shipping. That sale ended on the 4th. The current price is now $159.00 . Shipping is additional. But it's still a better deal than any similar item currently being offered on Ebay.
