Hi Korm, I did 2 - 3 washes of black/brown acrylic, I am talking almost brush washing water here, some I did this before I glued the boxes together, which ensures blobs of glue dont get in the way of the wash, when satisfied with the look, the labels were applied & then did 1-2 washes over all, so as to not obliterate the artwork but blend it all in

Related to loads for wagons is a shed that stuff comes out of to be loads.
And in that shed usually is a load of clutter & bits, some redundant, others spares to hand

Realising that some of the weathered clutter, ie. apple boxes would look better in an outside semi open storage shed, I decided to build a base, to fit next to the shed to place such a lean-to on.
As economy is a continuing neccessity, & as weight was to be kept down, I found some 10cm polystyrene sheets & laminated 2 together with cornflake box card in between & both sides to make a very light but remarkably strong base board.

This then was edged also with said card

In an box of odds I found a hatch cover from a model boat, A Norfolk Wherry, that would be just the thing for a barrel shaped roof for a lean-to, which would be in keeping with a narrow gauge enterprise with a canal basin & barges etc within arms length so as to speak, and looks as if it would just fit against that end wall & still allow the shed door to open

Cut some scale 12" x 9" uprights, some beech wood from some long forgotten piece of furniture, notched & distressed along the corners

roof mounted on uprights & valances added on ends, its looks lopsided but thats just the perspective, the legs are identical lengths

I see my local £1 shop has some stainless steel pan-scourers (the sort that look like a small silver birds' nest). You get 10 or 12 for the money and if you chop them up and spray them varied shades of brown they make good scrap-steel loads, if mounted on a false top inside an open wagon.

Concrete base for shed to stand on, as this shed is also going to go outside, by itself, during summer months I did not want any card or easily rotable materials in contact with the ground, so base is fabricated from 2 sheets of 80 thou foam core styrene separated with styrene zig zag strips just like those cheap hardboard doors used to made like.

back 'wall' made from a couple of bits of 3 x 3ins that were in the timber pile (scale lumber), with some old pallets fixed to them, just part done, still got middle to do

Decided to put shed at right angles to that first pic when trying out laid on floor &/or post # 110, this way rain will run off front & rear instead of down the back wall

Looking good Don. Can't knock pallets - I use them for gates to keep the goats out of certain area (although they do chew them!) - and for cutting up for all sorts of jobs. Owt left over goes for firewood!

You ought to know that YOU are responsible for my current little project! I'm building a small freight depot just so I can copy your "Loads for wagons"!

Pallets, well my thinking went like this, if in real life I would use pallets to hand to restrain the contents of a shed by forming an ersatz wall, why not use some pallets that have been knocking around outside on Stoneycombe for 2 or 3 years, & well weathered & battered, & reuse them intsead of new material in the build

First step in paint/ stain treatment,
The variety all ready there in pallets will be retained

I am thinking of putting a scrap end of old tarpaulin over the back from the roof valance down to overlap the pallets
& maybe use some chainlink netting or something similar on the front side so as not to hide the contents with tarp on that side

The tarp maybe some old weed control fabric suitably stained etc
but not sure what to use for the netting, as yet any ideas

Hairbrained idea, make some from very thin galv wire, Yeah but that would mean a lot of crosseyed threading work

Shortcuts?? anyone ? Ideas?

Hi again Don. The wife gave me some netting used in dressmaking as a stiffener. They make something similar for embroidery too. There is also the alumimium mesh used as a support for car body filler.

Thanks Mick, yes, got some of the ali repair stuff I also got some mesh in steel from a redundant fire spark guard, used some of that embedded in some styrene sheet for a manhole cover, as per pic
