How many Long term Projects have people sitting on there workbenches

Had a Clearup this Morning and I reckon I have 5 Stainzs in Long Term Holding

1 A original 1968 2010 In very poor condition, has been badly repainted needs a complete Stripdown

2 A Blue Stainz I bought as a Body only, will be repainted and Mated to a spare chassis I have

3 A Early 1970's Brown Cab No2 , Currently DOA and missing lots of detail parts

4 A Early 1970's No 4 purchased off the Forum, Purchased in pieces

5 A Bitsa 1970's No1 Cab, unknown Boiler and Chassis age, Will be mated to later Block from a 20212

You're not a great fan of Stainz then?:rolf::rolf:

Should I go just gears, or complete axles for one where the worms have worm the gears to b*gg*ry? - Early model, will have to press/pull the wheels orf of it, and then do the magic or 'quartering' (said in awe, in a weird voice).
Must only mean a flat surface, a small engineers square, and clean glasses really.. No need to sacrifice a chicken and beat myself with mistletoe, surely?

Oh, projects..
1. otto to quarry hunslet-type thing..
2. Afore mentioned Stainz..
3. two coach kits, a wooden slate-wagon kit, resin tub, a few Hartland kits, Playmobil chassis, boiler, and a Playmobil/LGB 'yellow box van' which someone had painted grey and added plasticard veneers to.
4. Bachmann Christmas tram - motor block.
5. MCD (or whatever) small yellow diesel kit..
6. Early Bachmann Lyn - need a chimney and detailing parts. Runs rough.
7. 'Mad' idea to motorise a Matra crane, and make it animate under DCC. - Already have mini servos and a pile of info printed from web.
8. 200 foot of s/h track in the shed.

Is that enough for now?

Phil.
(wish I hadn't listed that lot, it is a little depressing! ;-} )

Long term ?? I get them done too quickly. They don't call me Madman for nothing. I think the only guy here that is quicker than I would be Vic Smith.

I have over 40 Stainz's these are the latest pojects
if you need axles for older Clamshell boxes I have a supply

The trouble with long term projects is that they will remain just that, unless Time, Resources and above all Motivation is available.

I tend to make lists of what must, or should be done, plus what I would like to do. I also break the tasks into sub tasks, such as:

Acquire parts X & Y for Item Z
Modify item Z to take parts X & Y and fit them

I then target one item on the list at a time until it can be crossed off.
As new needs are identified and issues arise, new items are added to the list.
That said, some items never get seem to get crossed off, but the system generally serves me well.

Today I spent half an hour experimenting to identify the correct type of heat shrink tube for improving the strength of the connections to the lighting units installed on some of my Playmobil coaches. Hopefully once I have enough of the right type in stock, I can modify the whole fleet and clear that task during the week.

The next item on the list is to fit some LGB Carbon Pick-ups to a Bachmann Thomas Brake Van chassis.

I also have a new branch line and a mainline extension of my garden line to start on, so "More good weather when I am off work" clearly needs to go on the list urgently!

There is always something to do to fill the odd spare half hour...

Problem is to find that odd spare half hour :rolf:

Return life to the EG&SNNR......now postponed until 2014.....

Hey I resemble that remark! ;)

Funny, I just finished adding siderods to me Blue LBH saddletanker

and, replacing the broken drive on the LBH railbus bash

and, finishing adding details to the LBH Boxcab bash,

admittedly there wasn't a great deal of work to do in hindsight, so they went fast.

Im now about to pick up the screwdrivers and install R/C battery's to a class 66 ive had for at least 3 years in the box never been out!!!!!.....
The reason is I want to double head it with another of the class next weekend at the Ipswich Model Engineers open day ;)

I keep on telling myself, "no more toys until you finish this" but I fail dismally every time.
The outstanding list so far, grown over past 4 years, approximate chronological order -
GRS WHR coach kit x 1 - part built (supposed to be one of 3.....eventually !)
GRS signal, 2 x single, 1 x gantry - prepped only.
Back2bay6 signal box interior detail kit - just looked at.
IP Darjeeling goods wagons x 2 - painted and assembled just need wheels fitting and detailing.
Yatton Darjeeling baggage waggons x 2 - just checked the contents (tailor mate to make the covers).
Rio Grande Models UK/AMS Pagosa combine kit - just checked contents.
SVRR air powered points motors x 7 and ancillaries - just checked contents.
Sratchbuild "what if" L&B Mallett, 2 x Bachmann Annie chassis, various plastic sheet and pipe + GRS detailing parts. Drawn and fist chops to one chassis made.
Well, it looks like I'm going to busy over the winter. But I said that 4 years ago, 3 years ago..............
Max.
