Making a New Start

Giles it always looks good, but those camera angle are spot-on !

Strange shaped clouds in the sky there ;)

Looks great :D

I presume you mean the last picture on page 23, Vic? That'll teach me to paint the whole ceiling next time!

Don - I've been experimenting with various low-angle shots. It was also a great help when I discovered how to crop and adjust the angle of the pictures I'd taken, once they were on the computer.

While #4 paused at Hogwood, our photographer climbed up onto the roof of a boxcar to take this shot.

Failure of the normal loco has brought diesel #5 out on a passenger service, seen here climbing out of Cattewater.

Services on the C&S have been suspended owing to the seasonal Great Cattewater Chasm.

You can see the reason - the cupboard below the baseboard where the Xmas decs are stored. Back to normal soon.

Meanwhile it provides an opportunity to get the camera into a spot that is usually rather awkward.

Season's Greetings, everyone.

Not enough cotton wool to create a snow scene, so this one will have to substitute.

#1 rolls down the grade into Cattewater with a freight train

Having "run round" the train the flat is pushed onto the wharf.

After uncoupling the flat car, #1 heads off for some water

There are no run-round loops on the layout, so here are a couple of pictures showing how a car is switched into a facing spur. All the locos have wire spigots at each end of the front and rear pilot beams, and you can just see the chain in the first shot with the other end hooked onto the reefer.

This view of the same scene shows it better. (well it did on a full sized screen version of the picture).

#4 pulls into Cattewater on a mixed bound for Clydes Creek.

#7 pushes the ventilated boxcar up to the Freight House at Cattewater.

Great pics Giles and plenty of activity too! Always enjoy:thumbup:

Thanks, Trevor.

I've just realised that the layout has just reached its second birthday - although the actual date the first timber was cut have been forgotten, it was certainly around Christmas 2009 and probably between then and New Year. Here are a pair of pictures: Then and Now.

Thanks, everyone for the comments, suggestions and help during 2011. Have a good time tonight and see you in 2012!

Still a few days until general running can start again, so here's a shot from the last operating session.

Nice before and after shots, things are moving very slowly on my layout, but they are moving ;)

Thanks, Vic. Glad to hear there's been some progress at your end (this is the walk-in layout?); hopefully some pictures soon.

Shawn, This is the last of my stock of new images of the line. Nothing new to report on, I'm afraid - but as there is also the possibility of a re-location over the horizon I'm mainly working on my smaller scale portable layouts.

To celebrate the closing of the Cattewater Chasm I ran a mixed train today from Cattewater. We went up the hill

and over the trestle

then did some switching at Hogwood, where we had to drop off a boxcar at the Freight House - but first we had to pull another boxcar that was in the way. This was the old 4-wheeled car from the early days of the line.

After that we picked up a reefer and left town for Southvale

(sorry I should have cleared up the fiddle yard before taking that last one)

Great scenes! It will be a sad day if you have to dismantle the line:thumbdown:

Uh oh, I hope it wont be too radical a "relocation" I know all about those :@

Yes I'm moving slowly, mostly working on building facade flats for the back walls of the layout.

Did another show this past weekend with the pizza layout, shows are fun aren't they ;)
