Making a New Start

I enjoyed reading Giles thread and it was so sad that the line closed.
However some of the locos will have a future together and keep the memory alive,
Number 4, 7 and 8 have been aquired by 'Pakefield Joint' to run on their branch line along with some of the stock.
Number 1 would have joined them but the C&S Engineering Dept has mislaid it !

Here thay are in the PJR workshops for a check up before entering service later this month.

The Ex C&S engines have been allocated to the PW Dept,
and as such have entered service without modification and still carrying C&S fleet numbers.
No8 had the honour of being the first train to use the new 'Pakefield Joint' branch line

She struggled a bit hauling two bogies cars up the inclines, so No4 was summoned to top and tail.

Later in the day No7 was also in use helping to check clearances etc

The good news is that missing sister loco No1 has been found and will be joining them very shortly.
They will have a great future to look forward to in their new home.

No7 had what was possibly her first ever run on a main line today, taking the flat car back to the central Diesel Depot yard after the booked engine was unavailable.

On the way back she encountered one of the express passenger workings going the other way...another first.

Having had the honor of spending a day Operating Giles Layout in London, it is good to see that some of the Stock has gone to a good home and is enjoying a new life in the great outdoors.

At home on the C&S the Porters never had a greater hill to climb than the one or two inch difference between Cattewater and Hogwood. I can't remember the last time I had the saddle tank off one of them - perhaps there's room to add a little lead in there? I think #7's side tanks are lead lined. As #1, when she arrives, has no fuel bunker she will need a tender for main line running so could benefit from a powered unit to assist uphill on the branch. It's really great to see them out in wide open spaces with a real journey to complete.

In normal use the locos will top and tail, or keep away from the fierce inclines on the lower loop line which were laid to give the live steamers some work to do !
No1 has arrived in her new home to join the other ex C&S engines on light PW duties.
She was out and about today getting to know the new area, so the memory of your line will live on Giles.
There are no plans to repaint or renumber the locos into the 'Pakefield Joint' sequence.
