Ted, glad you took the advice to come to this thread, Igor has really documented a lot of different "experiments".
Azobe wood has other names:
Ekki seems to be the common name in the UK....
It's somewhat rare here in the USA and expensive.
I found that crates from the Philippines were often made with some local hardwoods and made a geodesic dome from them (a motorcycle shop gave me the crates)
You might go to a local specialty wood store and ask for an inexpensive hardwood and see what you get.
