Marklin Loco Info Needed Please

Hi Guys

A friend of mine is having a clearout and due to his lack of computer skills he has nominated me to sell some railway stuff for him ( on ebay mainly I guess )

Most of it is straight forward and there are a few LGB items to come later on but the one item I already have is a Marklin G Scale loco. I know nothing about these at all. It is boxed and brand new and is of course G scale but it is entirely made of metal - even the body ( tinplate ? )

I have no idea how to list this - how old it is ( he can't remember when he bought it - he think 2001 ish ? ) - I also have no idea of what it might be worth.

Can anyone enlighten me please

I have a related Maxi loco, named Jenny the same as my missus which is how I justified buying it!

Maerklin Maxi are more Gauge 1 than G scale, but will run happily on LGB track. As far as I know the Maxi range aren't made any more. I think a lot of the Maxi range was intended as a range for kids, with simplified detail but robustly made. It comes with a Delta system digital decoder (command control like DCC but not compatible). Should also come with a replacement circuit board in the box that allows the loco to run on DC.

Can't advise on current sale value on ebay, but Maerklin stuff can attract high prices for what it is (mine was an ebay bargain, about £80 I think). Try looking on ebay.de for current asking prices for the Maxi locos.

<edit>There are currently two of these Roessle locos on german ebay, both around the 200 Euro mark (around £160). Possibly a special / limited edition. Whether that's a fair price depends on whether someone buys them!</edit>
 
They were made under-licence by a Czech company that did mostly 0 gauge as a cheaper retro looking Marklin line. They were selling for bargain prices a few years ago but now seem to have crept up a little but don't expect that much if sold in the UK, probably £100-160. If you want more you need to list with postage to the EU and the US.
 
Can't help much with the Marklin loco, though you've already got some good advice above from Nick and Steve; however if you have some LGB to get rid of, you could try listing it here on GSC in a Private Sales thread? Works very well usually, you're reaching a perfect audience, and it's all entirely free - no nasty eBay fees taking 10% or more out of your sale price!
Just read the rules/notes on posting first, the most important things are that you must set an asking price, and you must post a photo of the ACTUAL ITEM being sold (not a catalogue pic or shot of a similar model).

Of course you would need to do a little research first to price the items right (too low and the first to see it will snatch your hand off, too high and it just won't shift - but then you can always drop it a bit and/or negotiate....) but that will be much easier with LGB than with unusual stuff like the Marklin loco.

Have a look on the Private Sales threads and see how others have done it.
