Due diligence .... don't blame you after last time!

Yes, I should have done the same first time around. Still lesson learnt.
I got to wait the out come of investigation re "Willi". Dealer has sent it back to importer. His repair man is looking at it.

A friend of mine had his " Willi " develope a leak in the flue after running for a couple of years. He received a new boiler just last week and installed it. He was told that a few of the boilers had solder problems on the cross tubes . The boiler was replaced at no charge !

Thanks for that Charles. This seems to be a rare occurence. I am now waiting for the dealer and main agent to sort things out. At least I have "Chaloner" to operate in the meantime.

Casey,

While we are awaiting Willi, how about a couple pictures of Chaloner.

Tom, I will post some tomorrow(Sunday).
We had an hours running session after our Playmobil Drive a train day. "Chaloner and another "Willi" ran perfectly only stopping for water and gas top ups. The visiting public loved them. They each ran with a rake of side dump hoppers and pretty good they looked too.

Well, I went and picked up "Willi" from the dealer. A new boiler has been fitted and it cost me £85. Main Agent wouldn't accept my explanation of problem encountered. He basicly said the fault was down to me (I cooked the boiler). So it was either pay up or get back a useless locomotive.
Anyway, it as been fitted with a water top up system and had a good run out at the weekend.

One thing about Willi that differs from most live steam locomotives is that it runs out of water way before it runs out of fuel. I go through roughly three tanks of water per tank of fuel. That is rather strange, especially for a starter (or should I say easy line) locomotive.

However, the Willi water sight glass is very functional, but a water top up system is a definite must. Keep an eye on that sight glass!

p.s. 85 British Pounds for a new boiler seems like a very reasonable price.

p.p.s. Really nice pictures.

The wheels on Regners have a plastic insulator between the wheel hub and the Axel. The grub screw has to bed into the plastic so they'll need tightening a few times.

Casey,
sorry to hear of your troubles, my experience of "Willi" has been 3 boiler failures, all at the vertical flue joints over the Burner..it seems its adifficult boiler to make, and the water gauge needs careful watching to ensure the joints are always covered by water. Im not suggesting yours has run short of water.. as we had failures in which Im certain the water level had been maintained, just that it seems vunerable in the joint area.

Taperpin.

Adding the water refill accessory to the Willi makes it a long duration locomotive, I was disappointed that mine did not come with it initially. Without the refill valve it could run about ten minutes, not very good. After installng the valve 30-40 minutes are now possible, very nice locomotive now.

Thanks
Steve
