new mamod

Over on the Mamod forum, there are some pics of a new Mamod loco (not from MMS) 40psi silver soldered boiler with re-heating coil £385. Looks really good!

:rolf: I love that gif.

385 for a Mamod sounds steep - needs to be pretty darn good.

Went over there and looked, no dice finding the loco.

I also remembered quickly why I don't go over there much any more.

sorry for the delay.

£385 is not bad- high pressure boiler gas burner etc, compares well to the Regner prices well.

That is a rather attractive little beast - even the ugly new Mamod signature chimney seems to suit it!

Bit of an issue with the gas burner though - as in, it hasn't got a pipe.....

Hm I have never seen one of these before, but I think that the Gas Pipe must be underneath the Tank go to the bottom of the Boiler. Whet you see in Pic 1 must be where you fill the Gas tank.

Is this realy a new Mamod? Looks a great option for a Steam Tram Body to be built on it.

I much, much, much prefer the regners which would appear to be alot more solidly built from what I can see in the pictures

I agree! Dad has one of the Regner locos, has yet to run it, this would make a good stablemate....

Apart from the lack of a gas pipe, the cylinder support looks a little flimsy and would it be slip eccentric for forward and reverse.
Not sure I would part with anything near £385 for it.

Shaun.

Interesting views. I quite like it and think its ok for the price. Agree it might not be up there with a regner, but they are not without their problems. I do feel Mamod are heading in the right direction and hope they do well. Bits might look a wee bit on the weak side but it is geared. Might be slip eccentric but maybe more efficient in its use of steam than an oscillator. Realised I sound like a mamod sales rep- i?m not but this is the first mamod i?d think about buying!

Can't say I'm very impressed, pop rivets and bent tin. Nothing like a Regner, in terms of build quality and material scantlings. If it was £250 then OK maybe. It does look like good kit bashing fodder, but I doubt it would last very long as it does not look robust. This is still a steam toy, rather than a serious model, my late friend 'Manxman' form the Mamod forum would have loved it! RIP Chris.

The gas pipe is definately missing, but that's just a slip up on the photo shoot. Nice to see a fixed cylinder though.

I was a little harsh there maybe, the chassis does actually look quite substantial (cranks etc) but the support for the cylinder looks very weak to be frank.

I am wondering of that is a pot boiler or a centre flue? There is no clue regarding the burner. That toy safety valve still too, however that is easily replaced!

I cannot find the loco on the Mamod forum or website, any chance of a link?
