New NQD

you know
i really like these cars-
woudl someone who has them
and
will give a comparison to LGB
please give a review

im interested first and foremost in that they run trouble free
and are at least bachman quality -ie dont fall apart and the parts fit and funtion

im exclusively LGB and like the hassle free aspect/reliability
and of course the quality

but

these are cheap here in the US, and i really like the new two tone versions
and the LGB versions are very hard to find now

I've got a rake of five of these Steve, that I bought as cheap respray/kitbash fodder.

In all honesty in comparison to LGB, they're nowhere near the build quality, and it can be a bit hit and miss as to whether they will run straight out of the box without a bit of fettling.

I've replaced the wheelsets on mine with Bachmann metal wheels and replaced the standard coupling springs (the NQD ones are very stiff and can cause derailment on R1s).

At the end of the day each of my coaches has cost in total around £62, including the original purchase price plus paint, lining tape, metal wheels and replacment coupling springs. They now look well nice and run beautifully so I'm a happy bunny.

Que gratuitous coach piccy.

i wish they'd venture into american stock too......... my dad has a few of the coaches, and when you're stood 6ft above them, they look as good as the rest. he only put metal wheels on then and covered their logo. fantastic.

I reckon that the Bogie Opens are very American like. They have USA bogies so could be the basis of very good conversions. 2 to a box.

Yes I wish they would too. Unfortunately they don't appear to develop there own things so this will only happen if another manufacturer casts off old items.

Heck.....enough people BUY Thomas the Tank gear so why NOT NQD?
RULE 8 - as everyone seems to subscribe to?
Just trying to be realistic - not criticising any manufacturer. If NQD made some competitively priced US items I could well buy them but, based on what has happened so far it seems they are unlikely to develop something new from scratch. Most US based stuff is already made in China so NQD would not have a cost base advantage compared to the others. The moulds for the US manufacturer who disappeared many years ago (MDC?) seem to have been acquired by others - PIKO and USAT.

BUt if NQD are reading this - scale length streamlined aluminium coaches at significantly less than £250 each (in the UK) would be much appreciated.

I would like one of those silver freight cars. Can they be purchased in this country?

Yes they can, but you have to ask for the specific colour from any retailer, as they come in various hues, but all have the same catalogue number.

Try Model Junction at 01284 753456 as they will send you the colur you want if they have it in stock....

At the end of the day they are making affordable stock that'll help people get into a dwindeling hobby. And lets face it, alot of us simply cannot afford LGB's quality at the moment, even at second hand prices. I've got one coach from them and it's ok, not perfect, but it does the job just fine.
I'm sure that over time their stock line will increase, give them a chance! :D :D

Sto Racing show some of this stuff in stock at very low prices. http://www.storacingproducts.com/garden-rail-g-scale.html < Link To http://www.storacingprodu...rden-rail-g-scale.html

I wouldn't worry about the sale ending on 30th June. The last sale ended on 31st May only to start again a day later!

I have never ordered from this company, just found them online.

I have followed up the suggestions you have so kindly made but cannot track down a silver one.

Buffers of Axminster have these models, or similar under the AMAX marque.
http://www.buffersmodelrailways.com... said they are good starter or 'bash' fodder.

I agree with Chris. Open Office is good and free and very similar to M/S products.
One word of caution. After downloading and before installing SELECT the Open Office products you want. If you go through the installation procedure too fast you might end up with all the five programmes they have. The five choices are clearly mentioned - you can always read about the programmes and their uses before downloading.

Another word of caution. Make sure its a genuine Open Office download. I accidentally logged on to the wrong site & downloaded trouble.
