Not all Smoke Fluids are created equal!

I buy all my MTH locos from a guy in the States and use his special fluid for the steamers to get a fully smoke chuff and the smoke vapour for the diesels that don’t need it quite so dense. This was a find on eBay

But does it work in our little dragons? I understand that most smoke fluids are based on oil.

Yes,
Basically it is bulk-buy vape-fluid.*

*Not exactly, but pretty close..

Do watch-out, though.. Some 'weird flavours' out there..
Not sure 'bubble-gum', or 'strawberry candy-floss' would be quite right, some how?:think::rofl::rofl:

I think I'll stick with the LGB stuff. In 14 years I have only ever lost one smoke unit.

The lower output smoke units seem to last well as long as you don't run them dry forever.

But the high output ones, that are fan driven, and especially if you are giving the heating element close to 1 amp, you have to choose your fluid, or the wick clogs and burns pretty darn quickly.

simpler ones that are basically a nichrome wire coil immersed in fluid don't have this issue.

So the "best" fluid can depend heavily on the type of unit and how hard you run it.

Although I have never used them I gather that some of the smoke liquids sold for model boats are excellent and tend to be cheaper than the model rail versions.

Wow! I must have a dozen potential “smokers” but only one now works.
