Not really a garden, but....

I can see quite a following developing for this little Steamplex. She's a neat wee thing.
 Not sure on the scale of the figures though

The scale of the figures is OK JR, but their diameter is dubious.....although both NHN and JB claim to have lost weight recently!!!!:rolf: Our Saturday lunches together are becoming of concern to our respective wives though, in terms of 'input' ;-). John looks rather more in shape as he's very tall (I'm over 5' 10'' and he's visibly taller) but admits to being at least a stone heavier! Shh, don't tell him I said that.

JABsteam, it has a two speed box which is the original from the 'Simplex' diesel. This is chain driven from the engine to the input shaft. It can be crashed between gears with careful manipulation of the regulator, see the U-Tube link, we changed down at the bottom of the 1 in 33 bank (3%). As it has no clutch (here was no space left apparently!), if the engine stops on a dead centre, we have to engage neutral, turn the engine over slowly and keerrrr-asshh it into gear! The gearbox appears to shrug off this treatment, if it does demise they are fairly easy to come by for not a lot. The slack in the chain drive provides a certain amount of resilience to this.

Oh yeah, it also reverses through the gearbox, the engine (of unknown origin) does not reverse. There is an injector, but also a cracking Worthington-Simpson twin cylinder feedwater pump, that runs really well. The loco burns Welsh steam coal, and is very economical and a good steamer.

I admit to casting eyes over a Regner 'Chaloner'...with that thought in mind!

Of course if you put the 3' stock out of sight, 45mm gauge in 7/8th scale becomes 2'......hmmm.....

Go on Neil, you know you want to. :)

I guess the Steamplex is unique so the question of the plural noun is academic.
Together with a few F.R. mates back in the '70s I thought the plural of Simplex should be Simplices. :D

Or Steamplexii?:D

Now wouldn't that just look great in 7/8'ths with a Busy Bodies NHN and JB on the footplate

See my avatar.....it's not a busybody though, GHWood of this parish made 'me' :)

A video of the Steamplex topping and tailing with Sea Lion can be seen here http://youtu.be/C4uxtcXA0_k

And for a laugh the Steamplex will be used at the Diesel and Electric day this Sunday, well she is approx 35% diesel loco ....... although apparently someone is in bother with the Mosley authenticity police...... Sorry ossifer, don't know how this came about, hic! I suppose the moral to this story is never to design a loco over several beers with friends.........

Happy steamings,

John

It is with deep sadness I have to report new Haven Neil's avatar jumped in front of a train at a steam up last night and was almost decapitated whilst derailing this writers Lady Anne. Sad as this was the really disturbing thing was the way Mrs NHN roared with laughter at his demise...........poor chap, after much jollyment the conversation became about how best to repair him, the concept of drilling up through the body to insert a steel pin in the neck brought a few more tears to the eyes.

A splendid evening, thanks NHN and Mrs NHN.

Happy steamings,

John

You would have thought I had had enough surgery recently to last me.....then my mate kills me on my own railway! Drilling operations to commence shortly, follwed by re-attachment of my head. Mrs NHN unimpressed with this, as she preferred the quiet version!:rolf:
