OK what is the secret of taking apart the Stanz

It’s a bit like a rite of passage - they say you have to own an Alfa Romeo to be a true petrol head, and in our world I guess once you’ve taken a Stainz apart you can truly consider yourself to be a garden railroader!
The Forney, is also a bit of a challenge..
Mainly so nothing gets broken.
:wondering::rolleyes:

As i am converting a pree DCC loco do i asume i take out all the original electronic board and start again from scratch or is it worth doing any modifications as you can see i cant just plug a decoder in as it says in the instructions. Great fun chaps thanks for yoru help.

When you have finished reassembling you will have 2 weights left over. These should have been put in the coal bins.

Oh good heavens- I’d forgotten about that! But I’m afraid to say “I’ve been there and got the tee shirt “!!!

You have to remember which way up they go as well..

On the whole, a definite rite of passage..

Next week, our OP, can progress to battery RC!

Yes it most certainly is an oldie but goldie. Pull out the old circuit board and start again. I think you were using an old 55020, did it have the wires on, if not you will need to solder wires on for the track feeds, pickups and lights. These may be the older screw in ones not sure what you can do with these, full voltage will blow them eventually if the chip does not have the ability to step the voltage down to 12v. My comments earlier re dip switches are irrelevant with thus okd baby.

Just to annoy….one of the NWGScale menbers used to demonstate how to do this and re-assemble within 20mins!
Sadly, I don’t think that he is still a member, at least, I haven’t seen him for several years even pre-Flu.

Hm perhaps we could have a couple of new Olympic events. Taking apart and putting together a Stainz. Would be equally as valid as some of the daft events now staged.

Just for information realy i took the roof off the cab and there is an actual sound unit in there thet makes the rasping sanpaper noise that goes for a steam sound the black plug is to the rear lamp and the rear power socket the red plug is power to the "sound card"

Binned my sound card and speaker and added a MyLocoSound Steam sound card and Massoth 8241020 speaker:

If you think the disassembly process is a challenge, wait until you try to reassemble it, especially if you're installing a smoker for the first time!

I've installed DCC sound decoders in several of the older Stainz with the 18 volt smokers and screw bulb lights and I dread the task each time!!! It's not one of my favorite LGB locomotives to work on, to say the least!

Yes I keep looking for the ‘how to put a Stainz back together’ thread. But if you think that a Stainz is tricky, just try putting an LGB RHB 4 axle Railcar back together. I would imagine an Allegra is an even bigger task.

Not to cause "Thread Drift", but I must say, LGB did an outstanding job when they created the Stainz. Throughputs many years in production, they constantly improved it in many ways. When they added sandpaper sound and fitted it into the cab roof shows their:) ingenuity.....
