Re:Piko 62210 Rio Grande Water Tower Kit

for you nico
some pics of the tower as well as some other towers including the POLA and Muella just for comparison

Re:Piko 62210 Rio Grande Water Tower Kit

wow photos are so revealing
you can see how important it is to get water streaks absolutely straight down-ala gravity- ipainted the metal band screws rust -to minimize the rather oversized appearance of them

the shingles are done with a dry brush of grey over the stock plastic
the boards the same -dry brush UP armour yellow-which actually looks like DRG yellow after a few years in the sun-at least to my eye heavier under the eaves , less toward the bottom

lazy me-i left the brown plastic wood as is, and didnt bother to smooth down the molding lines on the wooden tank legs, which really show up in the bright sun, in which these pics were taken

i always thought the POLA tank looked odd-a bit skinny and high -but it has grown on me-looks very Virgina and Truckee , Carson and Colorado -and has a much smaller foot print

i like a bit of moss growth-so i add some either at the leaky planks or on the ground-just for fun-and because in Colorado you dont see moss very often

leaky water tanks often create thier own micro environ though

nico id be cautious with your glue-
it is designed to melt plastic into a weld
i have no idea how PVC meld will work on styrene, but id be careful with finer detail and not to accidentally smeer it

i always use the rubber tubing-im not sure why tho-as i rarely load the tanks
one thing i can say-in the event you break a spout hinge, the tubing will act as a back up 'hinge', as it does on my Piko at this time-as the tiny pins were broken when a passing train snagged the spout chain and torqued the spout to the side, breaking off the modled on pivot pins
you know, after seeing my pics versus beavercreeks stock tank, i think i like it unadultered better
im an incessant fiddler with models -just have to mess about

Re:Piko 62210 Rio Grande Water Tower Kit

hi Steve thanks for the wonderful pictures and info it will come in handy, the metal band screws do look large alright, how do you normally smooth down the molding lines ?,i will have no problem with getting moss to grow here:rolf:

Re:Piko 62210 Rio Grande Water Tower Kit

glad you liked them

smooth lines either with a sharp blade edge, or sandpaper

god my typing is atrocious
