Piko BR64 Roll Out

What a great looking model ! I suppose in the german market its the equivalent of releasing a pannier tank or a jinty in the UK, and in time for XhrXXtmXs... If I could bring myself to sell something, I'd have one, and a few coaches. Too much cool stuff & never enough money...

very nicely thought out , the design and instation of the decoda..now if the build quality and relabity matches it.. im very tempted

Another complement for Piko's recent wiring design, this time for their TEE unit.
Regardless of the number of intermediate coaches, wiring for motors, pickups and optional speakers at both ends together with directional and non directional lighting as well as a spare pair of wires run the entire length of the train. They are connected to screw terminals on a small board under an easily accessed roof panel of the No 1 unit making replacement of this board by a single decoder or sound decoder a doddle. Speaker installation access is no problem either.

Spoke with Harvey at the HobbyShop in Faversham on Saturday and he confirmed that he has my BR64 ready and waiting for me. Plan to drive over tomorrow morning to collect so should be able to post some pictures tomorrow afternoon/evening....

Just back from The HobbyShop at Faversham (later than expected as returned via the Mercedes-Benz showroom at Ashford :-X) together with the BR64. Managed some quick pics in the garden before the sun went down

.....and, of course, Mr Piko is still in the driving seat ;D

Thanks to Paul(RhB)'s guidance have sussed out the way to display the pics - the pictures look much clearer than they did on the old forum :)

Also pleased to advise that the "red knicker" adverts have disappeared. Thank goodness they have been replaced by some proper adverts - happy bunny now.....

Love the large wheels on that. It reminds me of the 2-8-2s on the Molli (appart from the missing axle). Conversion project?DSC04184 (Medium).JPG

As I suspected thanks to Stockers pic of the Molli 2-8-2t, possibility for conversion does exist. Though I suspect that the wheels would be too big. More like the wheels from an LGB USA 2-6-0 would work well, making that into a 2-8-2t. Sort of thing that Michael Adamson did all the time in his LGB Bashing days. Or perhaps a chassis from an LGB 141R may fit the bill. Need someone like James Hilton to do his magic with CAD to see what may be possible. If I were not modeling the Harz I would definitely be going for this. The remaining 2-6-2 Chassis would have made a great Propulsion unit for a Ruschbahn Eloc.

The thing is that the wheels on the Molli 2-8-2 are big. By narrow gauge standards they are fast locos. 50KPH (about 31MPH) rather than the usual 40KPH (25MPH) and the timetable demands that speed.

Looks very nice, Keith - have you had the chance to run her yet?

Jon.

Jon,

Regret unable to run the loco yet - no trains have run here this year :(.....but, hopefully, I'll have the track up and running again next year. Will, however, get the loco up on rollers to ensure that it does run. Report will follow later!!

In the meantime must contact Muns to enquire about the decoder he has mentioned in an earlier message.

That is rather nice isn't it?

I would be interested to understand the business reasons on the german standard gauge focus. I guess the biggest market for garden rail in europe?

So how much money to have to slowly launder from the joint account for this one?

A mere 350 pounds of the realm (plus post) should get you one from ebay.de
If you scan down my link above in post number 3 there are a few listed.

...and from my local shop, The HobbyShop at Faversham in Kent it cost me £315 less 10% Anniversary Discount (special this month at the HobbyShop) so paid a mere £283.50 and no shipping - just part of the cost of the diesel to get me over to the shop.....

Yes Stockers, the wheels are big. I have been to the Molli many times and yes they do thrash. I am not sure that the 64 wheels are the right sIze. Just I guess needs a ruler on them to compare with LGB 141r and USA 2-6-0 together with known Molli 2-8-2 drivers. Rest of the loco appears to have serious bashing potential for the Molli Locs.

Massoth video of BR64 & XLS decoder...

Piko have really pulled their finger out with the detailing on this.
Standard gauge or no standard gauge this one will go on my list. 8)

Just one thing, on the outside layout the lights are yellow but on the rolling road they are blue-white LEDs and flickering. Which are they and is the flickering just a 'feature' of the camera shutter?
