piko croc

G scale garden railway & indoor layout
i am looking for comments on the piko croc. i seem to remember someone having problems with power failure .
after a few runs with mine i have complete power loss, can anyone help please ?

thanks for that info. i thought i had read that a few weeks ago, but could not find it in loco section.
does anyone know where it was posted. thanks.

Surely taking it back & getting your money back or restored to fully operational condition is the way to go.

yes i agree, my retailer already has a new one in srock for me. i was just curious to find out if it was a known fault.
as usual on our web site , thanks to all replies. it may be after xmas before i can report on the new one.

Common problems:

- Windows fall out of the cab
- Cables come loose from motor block
- Wobbly axles
- Derailments in R1 curves & switches

A result !! I am pleased to report that my croc is now up and running. thanks to suggestons in previous replies.
Just to confirm that it was lost connections both ends of the connection blocks from the motors to the wiring.
The wires were quite difficult to push back onto their pins. I assume they were not pushed on very far at assembly as they would not have pulled off vertically due to the swing of the bogies. In fact there is a loop of wire to allow for any movement.
It was impossible to see the problem until I removed the front weights.
Number 1 end two white wires were off, and number 2 end one white wire was off.
Thanks again for all your help.

In addition to the above croc problem, I also had derailments of the trailng single axle unpowered wheels. It was always the rear unpowered wheel set in whichever direction I ran.
It was due to the swinging side frames, which are a plastic moulding. If you look carefully you can see the hinge pins are moulded as part of the frame.
A few drops of LGB red oil cured the problem. At the same time I put a drop on the spacers between the two sides, as these also seemed to be tight.
Let's hope now for a free from problems Xmas run.
I wonder if Mike of Bolton fame is aware of the above croc problems I always look at his latest electrical remedies.
I would be interested to read your comments Mike.

Happy Xmas to all. gep4.

hi Gerald, i havent got my mitts on one just yet, its a fine looking loco ,from whative seen, it certinly sounds like youve manged to nail the problems youve had.. be nice to see/hear more on hhow it runs:thumbup: if memeoury severs me correctly, i think the piko 2182 sheared motor feeds, but not pick ups.. may be a bit off added wireing(linking the pick ups) might help smooth running?

Made in China, then!

I really do want a croc, but all these comments just reconfirm that it will be an LGB one, may have to wait a bit longer, but as usual it will be worth it. P & S Hobbies have 3 limited edition Blue versions, factory fitted sound and chip, slight drawback is £1000 price tag. He also has the brown and green versions in stock somewhat cheaper.

The German shops have these for nearer £600.

The difference between them is huge. But if you're following rule 8, no problem ofc :)
And I don't want to start a discussion here, but LGB models aren't faultless at all at the moment.

Anyways, I reported all problems mentioned above to PIKO and they're looking after it.
- Windows: using another glue (more models were having problems with it)
- Derailments: solved after first production run. No problem anymore now.
- Wobby axles: don't know
- Cables: don't know
