PIKO METAL WHEELS

Bachmann used here too, problem seems to be getting them lately, a lot of places seem to have been out of stock of them for a while.
Spoke to my local model shop about getting some more for myself. They spoke to someone at Bachmann, who told them that they would be ordering them soon, but I'm also still waiting....

I got fed up trying to get Bachmann wheels in the UK
did a deal with this chap late last year, he stripped them out
of the packets and worked out the 'most economical' way of
shipping to me in the uk ie Amount/Postage.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-PAIRS-BA...907109?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item19d0998fa5

Got 100 axles in one hit, even with getting caught with the VAT worked out
at £3.02p per axle, close to the price i had been paying any way, over the
previous 3 months.

As to quality there were
14 axles way out of gauge (you could see the gap in the plastic spacers)
- easily sorted
9 axles with a slight wobble
- two suitable size sockets, bench vice, gentle heat and pressure
sorted 7 axles (2 beyond an easy fix)
but i have a lighted coach in a siding which rarely moves so stuck
them on that and now when it does move i hardly notice.
2 axles where the wheel is out of true (is that the word) or off centre
from the axle'
- not figured out a fix for these yet but they just sit at the side of
a siding looking like ready to fit or later when rusty as scrap.

Took less than an hour to sort out the lot - efectivly a sort of a 4%
failure rate, was quite happy with that result in the end.

Al Kramer always has some decent buys on Ebay. If you catch him in a good state of mind you can wind up with a pretty good buy.

Tony
LOL - Tony i actually did just that. Well for a few day's any way until SWMBO
decided that the table was not the best place for toy's :crying:
but they had a better use in the end anyway

I`ve changed all my stock over to Accucraft wheel sets.Apart from having to shorten the axles.I`ve fitted them to LGB, Aristo,USA and Newquida all been ok and they traverse my aristo points ok.At just over £4 a pair not bad value.

Are the wheelsets fitted to the Bachmann reefer wagons the same as the bachmann wheel sets you buy?

Was running some of the reefers yesterday (they don't get run very often mind, and only a year or so old) and noticed that the wheels are completely tarnished black with grime and dirt.
