Piko VT98 bash... (FINISHED - See Page 2)

Re:Piko VT98 bash...

A bit more to report...

This evening I made a start on the finishing touches to my Piko VT98 railbus bash. This makes use if some home designed transfers printed for me by John at Precision Labels (www.precisionlabels.com). Quite a plain livery but keeping with the austere post-war period and similar to the Bosnian railbus' it was inspired by. Note the Syldavian black pelican on the right.

He would have looked good sitting in the centre of the silver space above the V too!

Will the railcar be slipping across the frontier into Borduria, or is it for purely domestic service?

You mean the Burnt Chicken...........:rolf:..
Nice paint work james.

Re:Piko VT98 bash...

I did try the Pelican on each end but it looked untidy to my eye, it wasn't as crisp and symmetrical as the V itself.

The railbus is for regional services so may be seen as far away as Rurutania, Moldavia and Borduria ;)

Well it's nearly there now, after detail painting, satin varnish and a trial assembly it's the home straight now. Just a dash of roof exhaust, glue on a broken detail, reconnect the electrics and screw it all up.

Re:Piko VT98 bash...

I wasn't sure about the livery when you started James but the end result is marvellous, and big improvement on the original model. A superb transformation :thumbup::thumbup:

Must admit I wasn't sure about the silver myself, but it looks absolutely bang on. Well done James.

Re:Piko VT98 bash...

Thanks all - I hadn't noticed the pun Paul! Cheers! :p Hopefully it'll go back together ok. If you remember it was dropped and the chassis snapped so I think it's all ok, and have given it a test run but that was without the lighting fitted. I'll try and get it sorted tonight or tomorrow and some outdoor photos now we have lighter evenings as they always show off the colours better. I'm pleased with the silver, although I wish I'd use gloss varnish prior to applying the transfers to get a better finish as there is a touch of silvering on the backing here and there, only noticeable in some lights. The longer term aim is to fit a lighting bar to the roof as well so I can use it at dusk. I wish Piko fitted isolation switches on these like LGB do, I have wondered about retro-fitting one myself. Anyhow it's good to see it finished (well nearly) - I can now start on my 2-axle Zillertalbahn coach repaints (if you remember one of my first projects was to create a pair of Zillertal liveried 2-axle coaches from a pair of anniversary ones - well they've got new bow ended roofs and oak window frames so will be painted in a drab olive green with full EJ&KLR markings... oh and also keep the O&K shunter project moving too...

Re:Piko VT98 bash...

Fantastic work, James. Thanks for all of the pics to keep us updated.

Re:Piko VT98 bash...

So I'm pleased to say it's finished (apart from a touch of exhaust soot weathering on the roof, and potentially fitting some internal lighting).

Here are the outdoor photos I promised after I'd assembled it properly.

Thanks for all the kind words, and honesty about not being sure of my livery choice. I'm happy with the model - I can't wait to get it running on the EJ&KLR in a few weeks, assuming the line is still in one piece! I've not seen it for months and it needs some serious TLC and a good running session :)

Re:Piko VT98 bash...

Looking good, James. Transformed the model really well.

Re:Piko VT98 bash...

Wonderful. I like the detail changes to bring it narrow gauge.

Re:Piko VT98 bash...
