Dan, I believe if trains are run, the "rubber" traction tires stay flexible and last longer. When stored, they seem to shrink and crack.

I have read this line, and got the impression there is a shop or person selling the Plamobil drive wheels with the rubber lining.
If so can somebody give me the address?

Gerard I see from your flag you are in Holland. You can get traction tyres (perbunane rings) from the Playmobil spars in Holland the number is 30803460 at 0.45 euros each.

I’ve tried using two 26x2mm silicone o-rings on my LGB Henschel Diesel Locomotive. It worked OK on a short piece of test track though I’m not sure how they would perform pulling wagons on a larger layout:





I also tried some 1.5mm thick o-rings that made the metal wheel rim rub against the track and some 2.5mm thick o-rings that raised the wheel too high causing the locomotive to wobble. The pick-up shoes would then lift off the rail making the locomotive stall.
