Preferred glue for LGB?

having read the link entirely, the first time
and again

it seems to indicate that the adhesive you refer to is for luran s
and the later LGB plastic body material-not the softer steps to which the OP is referring for help

please advise if i am mistaken or have mis-read the posts in the link
or if you have first hand experience with the recommended adhesive for the softer black plastic steps and platfroms etc

so ross
as i am still unclear
what is the soft black plastic used for steps, the tank car guard rails, etc by LGB ?
is it one of those items in the list ABS, SAN, PS, etc?

i thought it was a polyamid plastic, which wouldnt be in htat list if im not mistaken

Regardless of all the good info given, one is wasting their time attempting to solvent weld the plastic used on the end platform steps. Apart from replacement, my time honoured method is to weld the part using a very thin tipped soldering iron. It works a treat but the operator needs a deft hand and much finesse. The repair is basically 'invisible' if done correctly.

Personally I would buy a relacement..cannot be all that expensive can it?
Ah, there's a major issue. It's not so much about expense than availability. There's probably a fair bit of "new old stock" from 2006 or earlier out there but finding the bit you want isn't easy.

And if you need some plastic 'welding rod',

you will find the sprues from LGB hook and loop couplings are a useful source of the same plastic material too....
