Problems on the T.V.B.L.

The track (and some) has now been collected together for the two new sidings. Today's task was to gather some of the construction materials. The OSB sheet was cut to width and there is some left for another day.

I also got a couple of lengths of U.P.V.C. soffit board as when I have time and the inclination I intend to bulld a low relief station attached to the fence behind 'Trentside Central'. There, for certain, I will need the assistance of our more knowledgeable characters as that is a type of modelling I have never tackled before

Thoughts of a turntable have not faded and as I construct the extra shelf width I will assess things a little closer.

I never intended to remove the old covering, the new extended shelf will be mounted alongside the original, so some support members will be needed. Probably more than this when eveything is secured. It is also an oportunity to secure it to the wall and add support to the fence. They have a habit of blowing over round here.

There is a 45% angle where the base-boards meet the wall, and the board is cut to fit, mostly for the sake of neatness.

Things do move on albeit slowly

The under edges are strengthened as the first lot were, with 19mm x 30 mm roofing laths on all sides, glued and screwed.

The edge laths are finished at odd lengths to add strength to the join in the board.

Ta muchly Fred. It needs to be really; a 27" wide shelf hanging on a 'sky hook' is risky any time. so strength of basic construction is vital. I'm hoping to get some support at the other end as well.

I made up a horizontal tight-fitting slide-in joint at the tall end, and the low end it is guided down to position by a similar verticle one. I do get a height problem at the low end if I don't keep the grass short. As a fail-safe there are two pairs of fishplates that have been 'eased' so that they can be slid along over the joints if there is any doubt, or I can't be ***** to cut the grass first.

Bob have you thought of a couple of legs for the overhang? just to give it a bit of support?...............Paul............

Yup, basically that's how the joint lines up. Two legs one end and a flat block the other; just I didn't allow enough space for the green stuff. In fact after last winter I had to beat the ground back into submission wiv an 'ammer as it had lifted with the frosts.
