Putting Sound into a Aristocraft Class 66

I have heard of this before..
Mostly, it is put down to the decoder wanting to be run several feet in each direction to do some self-calibration.
Though in one case, a decoder was returned to the supplier, and the software was reloaded, fixing the issues..

<edit>
There may be a way to stop the self-calibration?
Possibly the documentation gives CV values for certain manufacturers motors?

Thankyou for the information, I will have to keep try to find out the problem,

It was suggested by a friend to put the XXl back in as it works fine with that and then to put the ESU chip for the sound only via wires from the track pick up off the XXl.

I'd find the problem, what if the problem is somehow in the loco, and it manifests itself later?

Surely starting the calibration procedure is easy?

Some shops sell them as "ready for programming", i.e. some firmware should be loaded first. Is this perhaps your issue?

notice that reference in this advertisement:

Good point..

Did you buy the decoder with sounds etc. preloaded for a Class 66, or have you bought a 'blank' decoder?

That is how 9 of mine were supplied, sound downloaded later. They had their sound downloaded from ESU - Electronic Solutions Ulm GmbH & Co. KG: Sounds I assumed they are all supplied like this unless bought second hand, as one of mine was. Even then I had some some updates done. Max

Hello All,

Got it sorted with lots of help from all of you, I changed the decoders back so the XXL was in first then changed them back again and its working perfectly ?, seems very odd but it goes with the sounds.

Know im looking at putting the lights straight into the decoder as when it moves the lights flash on and off as they feel like it, this was said by you before,

Thankyou for all of your help with this problem, got there in the end :)

Hang on a minute!
Flashing lights could just be a mis-match between CV29 in the decoder and the Central Station.

Check the speed-step setting on your Navigator (or whatever CS you are using).
