DB Schenker have only just replaced the class 08 with class 66 to pull 2000t of stone across the main lines at Toton due to the time it takes for a train of that length to cross at 5 MPH instead of say 15MPH.
Main reason is the amount of time it takes to charge the wagons with air. An 08 can take half an hour to charge up a train whereas a 66 can can charge them in just a few minutes. An 08 can achieve 15mph across the main line just as easily as a 66.
