Regner BETTY

I believe NewHavenNeil has one. Must admit I really like the look of it.

I have seen the Betty running a few times and it is a very powerful and good looking little engine.

Sorry no knowledge but as other say looks nice , i had a regner Vincent and being a geared loco it was brilliant on a line with inclines ect .

Yes, I have one...half built currently so can't say about how it runs! Don't expect a simple bolt together in an afternoon job though, it is fairly complex, and some parts need to be 'fitted', eg filed and sworn at, to get them to fit! The slidebars took a whole afternoon to assemble so it would turn over. It is also only really for 45mm gauge, and a working knowledge of German would help, the destructions are in German with a rough translation available on the internet. Martins models, the importers have offered help if needed, as has an internet pal fluent in technical German, luckily! I haven't had any tme to devote to this model recently, pressures of life!

According to his advert in the September Gorton Rail Martin's models are offering a 32mm modified version, rtr with radio, for £1269. Compares very favourably to Roundhouse prices and I have to say it sits nicely on 32mm in the magazine photo- looks quite a small loco.

Is it not availiable ready to run as well? Be more expensive obviously.

I don't think it's available factory built Matt, but Martin's Models will assemble for you for a reasonable price.

There's no drilling and sawing to be done J2s, just filing and swearing - I'm good at both, ex m.navy engineer.....

The parts in general are of good quality, and substantially made to say the least, especially the chassis and cylinders/valve gear. It's going to be quite heavy for what is, as Matt says, a fairly small loco. The 32mm gauge conversion however needs serious engineering input, and is not viable unless you have a well equipped workshop and suitable skills.

The lack of positive wheel quartering is another issue I was a touch disappointed in, squared axle ends would have made life much easier. The boiler is brass too, something I'm not massively keen on.

I hope to get on with her in a few weeks time when things have quietened down some, and I get some 'me time' !! I'll post a few photos then, I think it will make up into a very nice little loco.

Hi Guys!

I had a Frieda some years ago, which is from the technical point of view almost the same.
As far as I know Regner offers kit building on top of the kit price as an extra service, though having no idea how much it would cost.

In regard to the building-process itself: It´s true, well machined parts which sometimes need some finetuning, but the overall construction was not too tricky, having in mind Frieda was my first kit-built engine. Even the Valve-Timing was quite straight forward.

Performance is pretty fine, but I´ve learned that my Frieda needed Radio Control, manual driving was almost impossible due to the design of the cylinder-dimensions (bore versus stroke).

You should keep in mind that a Roundhouse-Loco is here more balanced and - owing only one Roundhouse most of you even better know this than than me - able to self-start after a short halt and breath.

Feel free to contact me if you need some help when translating the German.
Regards, Klaus

I expect some of thier work is fine :impatient: but I am aware of atleast two builds by Martin Models that have needed very serious work done to get them right - or even running.
