Replacement Metal Wheels

Thanks all for the opinions. as you say c£15 for 4 axles isn't too bad but the increased University fees are going to dent my modelling spend for a few years!

Yeah, there's no easy answer either - the metal wheels are a definite plus, but you need to keep an eye out on evilbay, they occasionally pop up

Evening I bought all the acrucraft W & L stock but sold them apart from the coaches as they didn't like my LGB track and de railed on points, if anyone wants the coaches pm me with your offer les

I have just looked at the Lilliput wheels versus the Bachmann. The wheels are exactly the same - its just the axles (between the wheels) that are different. There was no run-out (wobble) on Lilliput but the Bachmann .....

As they both share a common parentage why is one superior to the other?:rolf:

Top of the pic are Lilliput and the lower is Bachman

I know that the Bachman ones are steel axles with plastic sleeves
but are the Lilliput ones solid steel axles? ie no sleeves

:holdon: I must say that I have been gradually replacing my plastic wheels with metal ones of the appropriate daimeter . Gradually being the word , plastic wheels whilst not as nice as the metal type are not the ultimate evil ! :holdon:

My approach and sentiments, Garry. The difficulty I have is finding spoked metal wheels which will run through LGB pointwork.

I didn't know the answer to that until 10 minutes ago:rolf:

Yes they are solid axles - well machined (with good square shoulders) - with plastic insert pushed into the back of the wheel. For the coarse scale wheels most of us employ, I think they must come out on top for economy and quality.

Similarly, the Accucraft wheels have a quality and value that has to be believed for their price. As has been mentioned, they are not everybody's cup of tea because they are to a finer scale.
