Requesting Playmobil for making a better RC loco

Hi

There is no spring in the controller and you can set the speed, put it down and it continues to run.

I do not have a tunnel (yet) but if you turn off the controller when the train is running it continues to run for a while (sorry have not timed it but would guess six seconds) and then stops. The signal strength is also good so I would not expert problems except in long tunnels.

Great bit of kit and my 18 month olds favourite toy at the moment :)

I have a lot of thick plant growth obstructing the signal at various points but it doesn't seem to pose a problem.

Already answered by others but here is my 2p. ::)

(A) You can leave the controller at any setting and loco will hold constant speed (until battery starts to deplete).

(B) Because of (A), going to tunnel etc. won't cause it to change speed.

The RC has a good range. I tested it from upstairs room to other end of garden (~80-100 ft) and it still works.

Off topic but I read that Roundhouse diesel locos require you continuously adjust the regulator to make it run continously. To make it behave like Playmobil loco you need to unscrew something and add 2 washers or so. Don't know why they made it complicated!

Thanks guys thats great to hear

Anyone know if the same is true for the LGB battery engine?

Somebody once posted a comment saying a dealer had told them that LGB were going to re-make Playmobil track powered locomotives :o

LGB have in the past released battery powered versions of the Spremberger steam engine, and the KoF diesel loco.

In fact, the Spremberger is currently available as a rather brightly coloured item for the childrens` market;

http://www.lgb.com/en/products/narrow_gauge/details.html?page=&perpage=10&level1=6218&level2=6229&art_nr=90200&era=0&gaugechoice=36&groupchoice=98&subgroupchoice=0&backlink=%2Fwww.lgb.com%2Fen%2Fproducts%2Fnarrow_gauge%2Fsets.html

I guess it could easily be resprayed black or dark green, and made to look less toy like....

The Battery Spremberger can look very convincing with a respray and a few added accessories. I bought this one from Jon (Zerogee) a few years back and "pimped" it.

And this is the ToyTrain version worked over by zenner:

So no one has the current LGB battery loco so no one knows if the r/c controller is like the Playmobil r/c controller or if it's very different?

Have to confess never given this set much thought, being a Diesel Fan, after some consideration now on shopping list after seeing picture of respray, be handy to have on our demo layout, seems feasible to convert to 2.4Ghz Radio Control.

LGB one is infra-red, so rubbish in the garden..

Whilst that statement and observation may well indeed be correct in relation to this set, BUT, with the advent of Higher Power and Higher Specification Infra Red Transmitters and Receivers, distances beyond 100 feet at achievable, even in bright sunshine, and interestingly, they don't suffer some of the problems that are associated, and occur in a very crowded 2.4Ghz band . Contrary to popular belief, line of sight is not always the deciding factor in their operation.

The sunlight can deflect the beam though, can't it?

True to a certain extent, depends on the specification of the IR equipment, bear in mind sunlight can also change atmospheric conditions which can effect radio frequency signals, so if you live in the far North, where it's cold and dark for most of the time, you got it made!

But a tunnel sure could stifle it. If its IR then its like the Lionel controller, and as such is a bit crap. That's exactly what I needed to know. I was planning, with either of these, to build a new shell over them, but since the LGB has the inferior IR controller I will pass on it. Thanks guys
