I have an order with them but am receiving no answer to either phone or email messages. Just wondered if anyone might know anything?

The web site has carried this message for a while - the move is not that recent. Maybe they went for cover after criticism of their design for the coal grating! Perhaps Will, as a former customer knows more ?

Mike

Now that is one of the things that most annoy me about web sites, you do a search, a site page comes up & you often have to hunt about to find out if its current or 2 or 3 or even more years out of date
as bad as those lazy letters " date as post mark", when most machine printed envelopes DONT have a dated postmark anymore
Moan over!

The move was made in October or November last year after Dave Cooper died very suddenly. Dave's son, Rob, had joined the business not that long before and now he has had to take it over completely. I get the impression he is somewhat overwhelmed and unfortunately he is not responding to phone calls as quickly as he should.
Rob has appeared on this forum from time to time but I don't know how closely he monitors it.
I wonder how many on this group have a Sabre Steam loco on order?

Mike, I'm NOT a former customer, and its an insult for you to presume something you know nothing about. If my asking for your name upsets you that much, it's too bad. I simply don't like talking/writing to someone who insists on anonymity as if there is something to hide.

Anyway, from another who has talked with Rob and who also has a loco on order, they've got a new addition to the family and I suspect [don't know for sure] that Rob's been out of the office for a while.

As for the grate, it's a 10 minute fix and shouldn't be a deal killer for anyone.

As someone who is apparently new to the hobby or at least this group, you should learn that "there is no RIGHT OR WRONG, only information." Most of us want as much info as possible so we can decide for ourselves which is the best way to go.

If I carried this too far, I apologize. Nuff said.

Will

Coincidence or not I today have an email from Sabre Steam, with mention of the new addition to the family, and with a promise of a phone call later in the week. So hopefully back on track. Thanks to those who took the trouble to post comments.

Hi All
I build the boilers for Sabre Steam and spoke to Robert yesterday, I will be delivering 3 finished boilers on thursday morning so no one has anything to worry about. Robert has taken some time out with the new addition to the family and is returning to work on Monday, even business owners take holidays.......

Regards

Matt

A holiday is attending a hobby show and staying overnight Steve ? you should know that!

I have a locomotive on order also. Hopefully mine is ahead of HGLR's ;) I talked to Rob last month on the phone, and it is just the nature of these things that it takes a little while. He had mentioned a few suppliers are also going a little slow.

Even the big boys like Accucraft are pretty fluid with there delivery dates. I think there is nothing to worry about.

Hi
My appologies to everyone for my tardyness, however I have to ezplain in my defence that due to wife being blue lighted back into hospital yesterday after cesarian wound (sp) coming open, I have not really been about much. But all seems to be ok now, (touch wood) and going back into work next week, with the next 2 locos should be leaving the workshop a mere 2 weeks time.
I would also point out that the fire grate everyone has been complaining is being redesigned and all new locos are being fitted with the new style that has bars instead of the grill. Although neither myself or my Dad have ever suffered with the grate blocking up when using athrecite as fuel.

These pictures are of my Sabre steam Annette, no 040 costing £2682.00. It
came without my credit card receipts, without a bill of sale or a boiler
certificate (in accordance with the SEP component of the EEC Pressure Vessel
Regulation) or flue-brush.

The locomotive arrived with the packing in good unmarked condition. The
bodyshell is twisted, as is the Roundhouse chassis. The feedwater bypass
pipe fouled the running gear. The boiler is set at an angle across the
chassis (see photo) because the smokebox has been fitted off to one side and
at an angle. The chimney is tilted to the left. The coal bunkers do not fit
properly. There is green acid staining in the tanks where the soldering has
not been properly cleaned. The feedwater water bypass fouled the wheels and
the feedwater tubing to the pump is bent around the centre axle and
continuously fouls.

The paintwork is appalling. One can see on the photographs that paint has
been applied over dirt. It would also seem to have been applied without etch
primer and was already coming off on receipt.

Mr Cooper told me that the locomotive had left in perfect condition after
two comprehensive tests and a coal firing.

An attempt was made to steam this locomotive with the help of Raif Copley
and David Pinniger both very experienced with coal firing.
The whistle valve does not work properly causing water and steam leaks. The
water gauge leaks. The blower was blocked with solder (cleared for me by
Raif Copely) and so was not tested with coal before delivery. Even with the
blower cleared and working, the locomotive (with the combined efforts of
Raif and David Pinniger) would only run briefly (in forward gear only).

Mr Cooper will not refund my money because the loco had been looked at by a
third party ie the help I received from Raif and David. He has 'kindly'
offered to help with these problems despite me 'negating' the warranty.

Given the truly appalling condition of the locomotive as delivered, and on
information received about other recent Sabre locomotives, I have serious
doubts about Mr Cooper's ability to address these problems. This (and
concerns about business practice other than the purely engineering) has
meant that I have decided to have the locomotive properly rebuilt by a
proven engineer rather than return it. I really cannot afford to lose the
whole of the money paid to Sabre.

I am aware that I am not the only one to do this.

Good god.........

I cannot believe that anyone could send a loco out with such a "curve" on the boiler.
