Suggestions for new models (LGB & PIKO)

I would like to see an RhB Allegra from Marklin-LGB, complete just like this one.

I wonder how much it would cost
yeah! - but your worth it.

Yep it might drop the price to around £1000 to start with ;) I'd love an Allegra but at the equivalent of £6-700 for a loco and nearly £300 per coach for RhB stuff from LGB I'd hope Piko might choose it as an introduction to RhB for around £6-700 complete. Another thing is it is long and would they compress it by cutting out length? Latest models have been pretty good scale rather than the old rubber ruler days which would make an Allegra huge for any line and virtually impossible for R1.

Joined in the debate a bit late, but I was thinking when I saw someone's thread with their Piko 218 + 6-wheel thunderboxes, whether the market is polarising:

Bachmann/Accucraft USA Fn3
Bachmann USA 1:22.5
Aristo/USA Trains - USA 1:29 standard gauge (Railking 1:32)
Piko German standard gauge
Accucraft UK - UK Outline

So why don't LGB concentrate on Eurpoean narrow gauge. There's lots of stuff for some of the Swiss lines, the FO, and the new Zillertalbahn diesels that hasn't been attempted yet - loads of possibilities.

And they haven't done anything French since the carpet hoover.

If Piko had come along a few years earlier, I could have been swayed.........possibly

Oh dear :nail::nail: :rolf::rolf::rolf::rolf:

I take it that you've gone off Accucraft UK for a bit, then Mel :-

I was idling some time away, as you do, and the Slater's (kit) version of FR Prince is allegedly one of the best in this scale, and only just over £300 - ever been tempted?

Having measured the Piko BR218 and 6 wheel Umbauwagens this morning and compared with the prototype lengths given on Wikipedia both seem to be to a scale of about 1:27...

How about a Union Pacific Big Boy that will go around R1's? :rolf::rolf:

I thought it was 32mm gauge only Chuggy?

Oooh, didn't realise, I'll go and count the rivets :nerd:

I recently wrote to Marklin with an idea for a 'Mini LGB' range of products in HO scale.

The idea was to make miniature versions of some of the most popular LGB models that could be used with a small table top layout.

I know it wouldn't have the same appeal as G scale LGB products, though it might be of interest to anyone who doesn't have enough space indoors for a permanent G scale layout.
I thought that most of the loco's found in the LGB range were available in the smaller scales already from the various European manufacturers? I've certainly seen a Stainz, U class etc. in HOe?

Fleischmann also made a Magic Train version of the Stainz locomotive in Oe scale.

I was hoping they would make something in HO or OO so it could be used alongside existing HO and OO models.
I take your point, but these are narrow gauge models, how would they run alongside existing HO/OO models and still run on the same gauge track? If they ran on OO track, wouldn't they be like the British O16.5 scale/gauge?

I think the idea is to have HO scale models on 9mm or 12mm track Mel, depending on whether we're talking 750/760mm or 1000mm prototype gauge.
I've always rather liked the look of the Fleischmann "magic train" stuff, but it's quite astonishingly expensive and the range is not particularly varied. Now if they could introduce a "Toy magic Train" version......

Indeed mate, exactly the point I was making.

Unfortunately the Magic train range has been axed, I think the limited range of locos was a problem as they just kept bashing out reliveries of the stainz. Now if they'd gone for some bigger locos and a mixed range like LGB then maybe it might have lasted. Seems to be a case of initial investment then limited imagination to expand it. The price was also not going to endear them to starters compared to HO junior ranges it competed with.
Several companies have dabbled with Om too Fama, Alpinline, Roco Alpinline and now Bemo are testing the water but they aren't being a success due to obscure prototypes and / or high prices. Now if Dapol can produce limited edition OO loco models for £100-150 then it's surely possible to do the same sort of price for Oe and Om for similar models to the LGB range. But they always seem to bang a premium price on it and charge the same as LGB models so . . . . . . . we but LGB!
We've seen lots of comment on here about LGB overpricing in G but it's not just them and my worry stems from the fact that these other companies, doing it in Oe and Om, have either stayed very exclusive and expensive or failed.

I would love to see some Amtrak super-liners from LGB to match their genesis locos.. this would look really astonishing...
