Taita Gorge Railway

Climax, now lettered No. 1203, with the remodelled Taita Gorge area, on the last day of summer (yesterday)..... clocks went back this morning. Trees, by the way, are Dwarf Alberta Spruce (is there any other?), now 11 years old. Ravages of time, and judicious pruning have given them a more realistic look.

Great pics Gavin.
Picked up my copy of AMRM today.

8| Got my renewal slip the other day from the lads in Matraville, with a polite note that Australia Post now want $A8.80 a copy to post the magazine less distance than from one side of Oz to the other. So, after more than 30 years of buying and contributing to one of the worlds best model railway magazines, I have not renewed my sub. :impatient:

The latest addition to Taita Gorge is this San Francisco cable car. It too, got Homeland Security all intertested on my checked baggage !

I was thinking of getting one of these, do they run well? and how tight a radius will they negotiate..... I can imagine the security problems too....

Re:Taita Gorge Railway..... 10 years old.

PM sent to Trev. Short answer, mine runs well, and I'm happy with it. Others may care to comment. I got mine mainly as a souvenir of my trips on the cars (along with a replica Conductor's Bell).

Here's the prototype of my model.... I was waiting for a car going the other way. Down the bottom of Union St, on Van Ness Ave, is Chan's Hobbies.

Where we you in the summer of '42?:thumbup:

Where were you in '62. American Gaffiti, one of my favourite movies.

OK, so I got old before my time :rolf::rolf:

Still liked the movie  but it was a long time ago :-

Re:Taita Gorge Railway..... 10 years old.

 Managed to pick up the DVD, cheap, at The Warehouse. When I was in San Francisco, I 'accidentally' found Mel's Drive In, one block back from Market St. I also have John Milner's car in S scale on my indoor layout, the cars came as a set, one in 1:24, and one in 1:64.... someone knows how to market things

 Strawberry short cake for the wife, and I'll have a Hot Dog and (Diet) Coke

Winter has arrived, but we don't let a little rain stop us from running trains

The loco needed a wash, anyhow. Dry and cosy in the train shed.

My wife picked this Nob Hill car up to go with our Coors car.

The day it snowed.

Number 1, snowbound on the Taita Gorge Railway.

...meanwhile, over the back fence, some recycled BR MkII cars are right at home.

Re:Taita Gorge Railway..... 10 years old.

Those conifers look really effective. Have you thinned them out or is that their natural look? Mine are a bit too bushy to look realistic.

Both. Some parts died off, so they got the chop. Other areas got 'trimmed', to take away that conical look.

Always good to see your railway Gavin - even if it is upside down

Have you weathered that Climax yet ?

8| Well, let's say, I'm not cleaning the body work. The smoke fluid, and natural dust are starting to do a subtle job.

 My wife has 'discovered' Trade Me, the NZ version of E-vil Bay. 2 Bachmanns, an LGB, and 2 USA Trains reefers. Collecting only beer billboards, they will live behind the bar when I get it finished in the garage (just like we saw at Coor's Brewery), and come out to play on special occasions.

Re:Taita Gorge Railway..... 13 years old.

:clap: For all those eagerly awaiting the annual Birthday photo, well, it's no longer possible 8|
The long talked about 'alteration' was started this morning. By mid afternoon, this is what Taita Gorge now looks like.

The old main 'original' oval, has been extended to a kidney shape..... a lot more pleasing to the visual senses.
8| A trip to the Garden Centre is on the cards to fill in the blank spaces

Re:Taita Gorge Railway..... 13 years old.

A kidney shape or some variation on it always seems pleasing. It must be the repetition of the curves, I suppose.
