To Tunnel Or Not To Tunnel That Is The Question!!

Tunnels are a really nice addition to a line especially if they are scenic-ed on top and to the side.
I have always tried to have an access panel in the top (or side) to remove leaf litter, poke sleeping hedgehogs to move on, and remove any other possible stuff that a track cleaner would not be able to deal with (including, recently, a bit of re-ballasting).
To enable the 'access panel' to blend in with the non access parts, I have just placed rocks loosely on top of it. As my tunnels also run under bushes, this panel 'disguising' works pretty well.

Hmm, well for those of you who don't live in this neck of the woods they are probably fine, and they do look nice. However, holes in the ground in this country attract one of two things , or maybe both - snakes and spiders, both highly venomous. The last thing one would want to do is to stick an arm into a dark hole.......A friend of mine who had a tunnel had a problem when a locomotive entered it but didn't emerge. What did was one very irritated red belly black, fortunately before any parts of human anatomy had probed the issue! We all departed the area in great haste, I can assure you.

Just make sure you send your biggest meanest loco through the tunnel with full smoke facilities to ensure there are no "critters" in there. :)
