Erm sorry to point this out, but 'Toby' is a Standard gauge engine that used to run on the Wisbech and Upwell line.

True enough Dunnymate, but there is this narrow gauge (2 ft) version of Toby at Bressingham Steam Museum in South Norfolk, built around a Simplex loco....

And this one is on the Bure Valley railway, in North Norfolk, at Alysham....

Indeed there would appear to be characatures of Toby on the NG in 2ft gauge. I have even seen a Standard Gauge one on the Severn Valley Railway. But the kits that have been made are of the W+U one and put onto NG (though GRS do it in SG Gauge 3 too. Re the larger ones, it looks like there are more than just us applying Rule 8!

Bring back "Sammy The Shunter", I bet not many on here remember him, and his story books. Alyn

Re:Toby the tram engine - gets a mate

It has taken me a year but Toby has now be reunited with Henrietta. She is a GRS Wisbeach and Upwell coach. The kit made up quite easily but the railings round the balcony ends are almost impossible to assemble and fit. However I think the final results is passable.

I still don't know how he sees when he's going backward though but it's the same for all the other Sodor engines except Mighty Mac of course.
Keith N. (Nibbs)

In the context of all the other Sodor engines, or at least all thiose that existed when I was reading the books, none have faces on their bunkets or tenders so why make an exception for Toby?

As far as seeing where he's going when in reverse - that's what his driver is for!

Nibbs , I can confirm Toby is in fact 2 faced, you should here what he's been saying about Thomas , Percy & James behind their back!
( see thread regarding these bachmann models )

Yes, I do, Alyn. I once saw a model version used on a model railway on Brighton seafront in the mid-1950s.

What about James and the Little Old Engine - remember that one? Those little picture-strip books were about the first things I read. Price 6d (2.5p) each, if I remember rightly.
