Track cleaner from Piko

I've got one of those motor units with the small cleaning wheels in the garage somewhere. It has a maker's name on it but for the life of me I can't remember what it was. Pretty sure it was German though. If I come across it I'll update this reply.
Found it. The maker is a company called NOMO. The cleaning 'wheels' aren't a rubber type compound - they're solid like grindstones. I've not used it yet and probably never will if it's going to significantly wear my track away.

The one on fleabay in Gizzy's post sold for £113.36

I wouldn't use it either. You pays your money and makes your choice.

Yes, that is what is shown in the video... the picture I posted, and the reference in post #59,look at 2:40 on..

Sorry Greg, but the image posted today is a completely different image... much larger and better detailed. (higher quality, less grainy so you can see a lot more detail in the loco.) You don't have to assume people haven't read all of your posts. The image posted by Trainworld gives a lot more detail for people interested. I posted the link because.. well I am interested in the details on it!
And since - apparently - i am not to be trusted or believed... i am attaching the image from Trainworld's media page.

As i stated, this was apparently in the U.S. - not the video in Germany! - and is at a show in NJ on display.

Besides taking a dig at me, is your point only that you have a bigger picture of the 3d model which is still lacking detail, and may change somewhat?

I think "Mr. Piko" actually covered the point that what was shown was not the real product yet. Also, since the handrails and other detail are not there yet (again per "Mr. Piko") not sure the value of looking at it too closely.

All of us have experienced how a prototype can vary widely from the production item.

Greg

By the way who are you?

excellent.

Bright yellow, my eyes hurt. Mind you, I do like little locos.

Mmmm, one has to assume that the real interest is the potential track cleaning capabilities - otherwise, why would it sell better than the Bachmann scale model of a Davenport ? :nerd::nerd::nerd:

Maybe, but I'm just as interested in a battery powered RTR model for under £180, it means I can run something every now and then during the winter months, in fact I might remove the track cleaning part or not use it as my LGB track cleaner does a fine job

I believe it will be available without the track-cleaner?? :):clap:

Would be good if that is so Phil re also being Battery Powered, not clear from the Piko new items leaflet athough wheels do look similar to the Track Cleaner. Cue for more speculation?

There is so much to say, but best I don't say any of it.

Honestly, there are a few reasons I am interested in this little thing... Battery power for less, track cleaning (assuming it works well) since I would rather not drop $600 on the LGB one, small industry switching, simplicity of repair, availability of extra parts, etc. I am very curious of the details on this thing and can't wait to see one at a shop somwhere. I am heavily considering a few and the track cleaner is at the top of my 2018 buy list.

I would guess there is a simple way to remove the cleaning pad/mechanism... or maybe it just comes in the box and you add it? (Like handrails and other brands? I am guessing, but wonder.)

Hope I get a better look at the front grill at some point, among other things... oh well, off to work.

Well, I'm interested too, and I've been battery for about 10 years, so I have absolutely no interest in track cleaning. However a small diesel for a bit over $300 AUD? You bet! I couldn't buy anything and convert it for anywhere near that figure; my last conversion cost nearly $600 (article in preparation about the conversion, of a Piko V36, but it's slow!) although of course that also included r/c. I couldn't even buy one of the track powered ones and convert for that sort of money. I'll have to paint it blue, though.

I'm just monitoring this thread out of interest. Being of the short arms and deep pocket disposition, it seems to have potential - a sort of future proofing for when I finally succumb to physical decrepitude!

But, in the case of this - much discussed - product, seeing is believing!

Alternatively, I can just buy one of those attachments and secure to an item of rolling stock. We shall all have to wait and see I suppose?

Virtually free, and you can push it with anything.

The wood is not fixed, the screws just locate it between the framework so that it floats. That's a big bit of lead under the wood and the finest wet&Dry I could find under that held on with drawing pins..

It will be available in blue, blue goose, and black, DRGW. Top Slots price £159.99. Don't know about the battery power but Top Slots has the cleaning version for £171.99 so at only £12 more I suspect they will all have the battery option as well with the extra cost covering the cleaning plate and materials.
