A switching lead is more specific, used only in a switchyard, and normally a dead end.
headshunt apparently can also mean a "runaround" too...

Switching lead just allows you to move a number of cars around on the yard ladder without coming out on the main
on my track plan above, the top switching lead is curved and a dead end..... the bottom switching lead re-joins the mainline and could be used as a passenger train departure track also.
