Trainline 45, HSB coach review

Well after a couple of weeks thinking about it, I ordered my first Trainline 45 HSB coach. The reason I went for the above was for two reason's really. One, they are reasonably accurate in colour and detail and secondly there is a variety of 6, 7 and 8 window coach's available, so a realistic train of various coach's can be made up.
First of all I ordered the coach from Glendale junction, at a mear 179.00 plus postage its not cheap and on a similar price to LGB, if not a little more. Glendale were the only suppliers I could find in the UK.

The box is on the large size for this particular coach, but I would assume that the same box will be used for all there stock and this was one of the smaller coach's, but it was well packaged.

The coupling at one end is supplied fitted with a hook and the other end just a loop (as common with LGB) a spare hook and spring is supplied as well as 4 x gates for the open balconies.

Inside detail, note the windows are all seperatley glazed and not all on one strip. The windows on one side of the coach were glued in position, whilst on the other side was just held in by the roof and these became loose when the roof was removed. Mr Bostic soon sorted these out as getting the roof back on with all the windows in position proved impossible.

Printing on the side of the coach is crisp and sharp. A few shots.

Overall the coach tends to be of good quality plastic which seems to be fairly ridged. The metal wheels seem to be of good quality and have spokes (although all my photos of these coach's have solid wheels) The coach run's good on my track doing about 100 laps without a derailment. The quality seems to be on par with LGB. If all goes well and my bank balance allows I will be looking to purchase another one (possible 7 widow) to go with this one.

So? When does the 2-10-2 arrive? :rolf:

I wish, saving me pennies for when Trainline release the HSB 0-4-4-0 Mallett loco No 99-5901/2

Nice review - GRS also have these in stock at the moment if anyone wants an alternative supplier.

Jon (who is also looking forward to the Mallett being released!)

Thanks for the review. Good to see coaches of this quality and cost being shipped with metal wheels as standard. That saves quite a few bob!

Modell Land in Germany http://www.modell-land.de < Link To www.modell-land.de have 7 window versions for sale at 189 Euros individually (about GBP172) or 539 Euros (GBP490 = GBP163.33 each) for a set of 3 differently numbered coaches. Both plus 18 Euros postage (GBP16.36). In each case, both "pure HSB" and "LGB HSB" colour versions are available (I have no experience of the HSB so make no judgement on which is closer to reality).

There are also several on German eBay, mostly at 189 Euros and P&P at 15 Euros, with an odd item at 174 Euros.

PHWOARRRR!!

Nice review and it really shows how bright LGB's coaches are in comparison to reality. Certainly for the money the Trainline ones are far superior and unless LGB dropped the price significantly they can't compete with these. Tempting but I don't think I will start again as I have several of the LGB ones bought when prices were more realistic. ;)

Very nice coach Nemo and intresting to hear your reveiw. I do like the colour of the trainline coach but like Paul i fear a little to late for me now.

Very helpful review. I ordered on spec one of the forthcoming Trainline RhB balcony coaches (from Grootspoor) and was especially interested in the comments on finish and running qualities - perhaps I'll order a second one and try breeding them....

I believe Trainline do a colour to match the LGB red as well guys - and then this accurate HSB maroon and cream. That photo with the Regner 2-10-2 is absolutely superb... If I ever win the lottery... I would like one, completely useless for the EJ&KLR being the 'wrong gauge' and FAR too big - but there is something about them - wonderful locomotives, lovely models.

I agree on the review - good to do, great to hear people's view and opinion and to pick out the little details.

£180 is a lot to spend on a coach mind! I balked at buying my three bogie OBB coaches for less than that! However I think the price compares well with LGB these days though, this is a great quality product from an exciting new entrant to the G market :)

Too big James? ;) I think you're running on broad gauge already :rolf:
Yes they do an LGB match though the Nq coaches would be adequate if you want to match colours.
I just baulk at £1800 to replace all my LGB ones like I said above or I'd be after these coaches. I suppose if you could realise a decent secondhand price for the LGB ones it would be worth it but I doubt I'd manage it. Still if anyone fancies offers around £1200 for a brake and 9 I might be swayed after this review. ;)

Is this the new Harz loco from Regner's 2011 line? Would you open a post on this? Some more pictures...
