Does it really matter whether the MM van was Royal Mail, Post Office, or GPO? This is a Tram thread. More tram piccies folks, keep em coming.
Memories, only memories, but yes, keep up with the tram piccies - even I don't have memories of trams running in the London suburbs (although my Nan always talked about catching the tram when she meant the bus) all I saw was tram rail embedded in the granite sets at Fulwell depot.
No one has yet mentioned the street running sections of the Rheatian Railways, in Chur and Tirano, as well as other street running sections of the Bernina Bahn....View attachment 203503
I would love to have some tram models on my garden railway, but without the overhead wires, they look stupid.
Bit of a strong statment that!!!! If catenary is thoughtfully placed in a position where it is not nescessary to be frequently walking over it then it presents not problem, I used it for years on previous lines, without issues and there were usally 2 dogs running around as wellI would love to have some tram models on my garden railway, but without the overhead wires, they look stupid.
Indeed a strong comment. Don't let the Londoners read it. A good deal of that system used underground conduit with no overhead wires. Erm, yes, I think they looked odd!I would love to have some tram models on my garden railway, but without the overhead wires, they look stupid.
The Conduit system, I believe there was a skate on the tram which collllected power from inside the conduit like a sort of 3rd rail there was some sort of stud contact system also somewhere which relied on magnetism on the Tram to switch the studs in ( ie become live) as the tram passed over them collecting power from a skate.Indeed a strong comment. I made my own catenary on one line when LGB was very scarce in the 80s, Copper tubes & rodding soldered up set in concrete blocks Contact wire was N Gauge nikel silver rail.I'd have thought that "Rule 8" would have applied to the presence of catenary as well...........
Some homemade catenary (or to be more correct, trolley wire) may appear on part of my line at some stage in the future, but at the moment I just run the overhead electric stuff without it. Am kitbashing something at the moment that will have (dummy) third rail pickup shoes as well as trolleypoles, but I have no intention of putting down any outside contact rail!
