Use of Jig-Stone Moulds

Just wondering what material mix is best for using with Jig Stone Moulds, and what types of building you have made in this method
(just information gathering for a talk on the subject at our next club meeting.)
 
Many years since I used them at the time I used children's play-pit sand and quick drying cement sorry no pictures

yup thats who i use in conjunction with wd-40 specialist anti friction DRY ptfe lubricant

Must start making again ........................
 
Is it possible that a link to a supplier could be posted. I have tried googling and have found numerous pics of completed buildings but not to an actual supplier of the moulds. I would say that if you intend to paint or otherwise coat the moulded product that you DO NOT use a silicone release agent as the residue is very difficult to remove and will prevent paint sticking.
 
Thanks gays, I have loads of Moulds but I am looking for peoples method of using moulds as well as the methods of construction used as I am preparing a talk on moulds and how to use them at a future meeting of my local club. I am a mould maker by trade but as always other peoples approaches are always helpful as no one way suits all.

Just caught up with this thread. The best material to use is STONE-CAST PLASTER, available from Art shops and the like. It is weatherproof and easily dyed using a blob of poster paint. Thios helps if the finished models get chipped. Stone-cast plaster is also 'cleaner' to use. Quick drying cement is another option, but can get messy. The makers do not recommend using resin as this reduces the mould life considerably.
As a matter of interest I am awaiting delivery of an order for the moulds to re-stock the shop.

Thanks Steve, one or two of our club members are waiting for your stocks to come in as we are going to hold a moulding party in the spring followed by a small construction competition ( don't tell anyone about it yet will you)

If you do a Youtube search for Jigstone moulding there are countless videos to show how its done.... and some of the moulds on eBay.... I made the mistake of hypeating the jig and stones... Use one word and it comes up trumps....
