Vandals hit train show

Anyone have the list of Layouts? Was wondering about something that is to happen soon about Soham and as it was a local Layout hoping it was not present. This was a layout with many Scratch Built Buildings on it.
Not everything was trashed. There was another room that wasn't hit and some displays would have been set up in the morning. There was a list of exhibitors on the club's website, not sure if it's still there.

Just read the report on yahoo.
Sad that some kids feel the need to destroy to gain enjoyment. Can't imagine that they will be punished severely.
Reminds me of the attack on the coaches on the North Yorks Moors Railway a couple of years ago.
Its nice to see that the club are seeing so much support within the model rail community.
Chin up..........

Dunnyrail. Below is a link with a list of the layouts exhibited at the Stamford Show. Exhibition Diary - Market Deeping Model Railway Club
The one you mention above may have been missed.
Below are two that were at the show and I assume possibly damaged. Some layouts listed there may have been privately owned because they are not club Show Layouts or Layouts Under Construction..

I believe the culprits were only 15? - So I doubt they could be kept in custody, as being 'minors'??

Whether there would be space at the local 'nick' to have put each in a cell, on their own, in the dark, for an hour or two. - Whilst 'processing the paperwork' was done would have given them time to consider their actions..
Probably not allowed these days? :(:shake:

Being an organiser of my local Exhibition I am horrified at what has happened !! Beyond words !! As to the reckoning . After the magistrates have slapped them across their wrist and said do,nt be naughty . I feel the group should sue the families of the individuals for damages !! That will hurt as it seems that British Law is crashing fast !!! Such a pity !! Wakeup Uk the do -gooders have failed Miserably !!!

In my opinion an hour or so in custody may simply be seen by a perpetrator as an adventure. I recall one particularly "challenging", short term, foster child taking this attitude and wanting to press the emergency alarm in the cell for "fun".

Quite possibly some on that list may not have been damaged as they may have planned to arrive on the Saturday Morning. Quite a common occurrence for a 1 day Show or even if exhibitors have a modest sized exhibit and live close to the venue.

As much as I agree with your sentiments Gareth, remember they would have to bring a civil case and that would cost them money - no legal aid for that. And if the parents, if even liable for to their children's loutish actions, do not have the money to pay any damages awarded (never mind costs assuming they those are awarded too) then they are more the poorer.

Better we all follow Alec K's suggestion and give here Help raise £500 to Help Market Deeping Model Railway Club recover from vandalism That at least will directly benefit those who were affected and perhaps with a little left over to bring a civil case, if it is seen to have any chance of success. You can donate as little or as much as you want. Every little bit helps as a certain retailer says. Max

Maybe they were some sort of protected class, or children of politicians or something?

It is usual nowadays to release suspects who are under investigation. It means that the investigation is ongoing and that the suspect(s) can be recalled by the police at a later date or informed at a later date of the result of the investigation and what any charges will be. It is used for the majority of crimes today in the UK, only serious crimes leading to people being released on bail or held in prison. It's nothing to do with political influence or anything like that.

I was thinking of going to the show in Stamford, but we went to the Ely exhibition instead. (After chasing the last 37 topped and tailed passenger train in East Anglia from Kings Lynn!)

I will definitely support their show next year though?

One of the exhibits was from the St Neots club, and Market are to donate some of the funds to them.

The St Neots exhibition, or The East Anglian Show, is actually in Kettering this year, 8/9 June, and I would hope that Market Deeping members will be in attendance too....

Apparently he,s a big model rail fan.............

I have the two issues of Model Railroader that featured his amazing US-theme HO layout - and he says in one of the interviews that getting his layout onto the cover of the mag meant more to him than getting on the cover of Rolling Stone....!

Like or loathe his music, he's very much "one of us", which makes him OK in my book. :)

You are missing the point Maxi-modeller !! I know sueing will cost money !!! What a shame the families will be poorer !! They should be more responsible for their children and teach them self disciple and respect making them suffer might do that and other parents might start realising that children are a great responsibility . It seems today in the UK Parents shirk their responsibility hence ferial children wandering the street the towns and cities and the gang culture !!! etc . Take a look at the bigger picture !! Also not all is the case there is good out there but as usual we always here the bad !!! Here is a golden opportunity to bring things right !! Or better !! At the moment the UK is sinking very quickly into a lawless and unsustainable country and the laughing stock of the world !!!

It doesn't follow that the parents have been poor parents or haven't set out to teach their children to be responsible or to have self discipline. And if the the UK is sinking very quickly into a lawless and unsustainable country and the laughing stock of the world I suggest that is the fault in part at least of those who lead it, and not just in government.

Perhaps I did not make it clear in my reply to your post or I must have made a basic punctuation error, you need to reread the 1st paragraph as a whole Gareth. I think the 2nd backs up the made there. What I wrote was that the litigants, not the families of the alleged perpetrators, would in all probability be the poorer. Less of the !!!!!!!!! too please. Max

Now it's lovely day and I'm off into the garden to play with my trains :)

If there is any tiny glimmer of satisfaction to be had from the whole of this tragic, pointless and mindless incident, it is in imagining just how totally sick the vile, evil little scrotes who perpetrated the act must be feeling as they hear about the amazing amounts of money flooding in from all the supporters and wellwishers....

When I mentioned the story to the Memsahib yesterday morning, her first reaction was that the youths responsible should be put in the town stocks for a few days and have tomatoes thrown at them.... preferably canned ones.

I thought Rod Stewart was more of a sailor than a train driver. :giggle: Good on him though!

I have seen some movie of him with some LNWR Trains in the Garden. So long ago I cannot remember much more than that. Who knows perhaps he is reading our pearly wisdom right now!

Rod Stewart has been a train fan almost as long as Pete Waterman, there are quite a few celebs that are, they just don't mention it very often, though they don't deny it either.
