Very little LGB around right now...?

The shortage could also be, as Steve (funandtrains) intimated, due to folk thinking that they should hang on to their precious stuff until times get better. There ain't a lot of items from other makes going either. There does seem to be a steady trickle of LGB track and odds and sods but not many major items. Same goes for Aristocraft and USA Trains and even Bachmann. Of course USA or German ebay seem to have a good deal more items on offer but, as has been already stated, especially from USA, factor in postage and the probable VAT import charge and what was desirable becomes less so. Selling over to USA is even more expensive, postage-wise, from here!

I have three LGB USA locos that I want to sell but at the moment there is not a lot of folk who have the readies for a loco so prices, that I might get, could be low. I may need the cash but I do not want to give them away and I should imagine that the same goes for a lot of prospective sellers.

Hsb coach for £170 + £8 P&P Now to me that's almost new retail??

These coaches seem to have fetched a silly price (more than new retail) as someone has put an OTT bid on them. Generally I think prices are quite low. I have some items to sell but watching the prices that similar items have been sold for I can wait a bit longer.

I think you are quite right Mike, there are the odd few items that sell for silly money but generally the prices are down quite low at the moment, for instance U class locos have been selling for £120.

There's still quite a bit of LGB out here on US ebay but the prices have certainly dropped. 3 years ago you couldn't buy a Mogul for less than $400 but lately I've seen quite a few sell in the mid-$200s.

For some reason the prices for Bachmann Big Haulers seem to have increased a little!

On Ebay in the US 3/4 of the stuff for sale is Buy It Now being pushed by greedy :'( 's . to find any bargains you have to trawl thru alot of stuff. I havent bought anythin LGB of Ebay in many years, what I have purchased was either thru shops or at shows.

A lot of it is down to the state of uncertainty of the western economies right now. Plus the fact that traditionaly this is the worst time of year to punt garden rail stuff. Wait till the sping gets going in the northern hemisphere.
Rare and sought after items, whatever they are, will always command good prices. There is always a core of well heeled collectors out there to make a market for that end of the market. The problems arise when you get to the widely bought/well used/tarted up (ltd' edition only 5000 !) run of the mill stuff and a lot of forced sales. See economy above.
One thing I have noticed on my annual 1 month/100 item Ebay selling sessions to knock out my old static/slot car collection (to pay for this hobby) - the change in predomimnant geographic destinations of the items I am selling. Down, but not out - Spain, Ireland, USA, Italy, UK. Holding steady - France, Germany. Coming up fast - Russia, China and other SE Asia countries (they are the ones paying top dollar right now). Sounds familiar ?
Better hope the Chinese develop a taste for LGB. Oh I forgot the've got a lot of NQ stuff :rolf:

Diversify get on to German evilbay at present 395 locos for auction and 9000plus items. I'm sure you could find one little item that could tempt you . Although this seems a little expensive

Over the years I have purchased 99% of my collection via the States, with a few items from France and U.K.

U.S. eBay has never been short of temptations, but alas, the bargains are sold by sellers who only ship to the mainland 48 states. The leftover items for worldwide shipping are generally marked up on prices to possibly compensate the seller for having to travel to the post office.

As Vic has commented, most items are 'Buy it Now' and generally at near retail prices. However, if you think LGB prices are high, have a look at U.S.A. Trains prices on U.S. eBay. Most are dealers selling at retail level. Even Aristo-Craft locomotives and rolling stock from fifteen years ago in black boxes are selling at current retail.

I too have bought most of my kit from the USA and can remember when the postage options included by sea and this was so cheap compared to today's air charges.
I think you are right Tim about a lot of sellers 'adding' on a charge to cover their own efforts in actually getting the package to the post office although there are sellers like 'ana.kramer' who charge fair overseas shipping

Again I agree about Aristocraft and USA Trains kit going for high prices on US ebay. It is interesting that dealers, like RLD Hobbies etc who have their own trading websites, actually charge LESS than ebay sellers for major pieces of stock as well as charging only the USPS costing for international postage with no additions for effort exerted. Could also again add in the seller 'ana.kramer' in here again as his kit mostly is new and at very very good prices but it is limited in its range.
Used items are the strange anomaly as you would expect those to be lower but you are right as a lot of sellers try to get top dollar for them (these tend to be 'intermediate' sellers who sell on behalf of people who do not want to go onto ebay themselves).

Most of these prices are 'buy now' and I hardly ever buy an item that is on this option unless it happens to be a very hard to find, sought after item or it is set at a very bargain price.

Bought my Mikado SNCF 141R from a guy in San Diego . £ 368.00 hadn't been run. That was in 2007

This is going to sound like a plug for ana.kramer, and I have no connection. Got a new Bachmann Fourney just before Christmas form there. USPS 48 hour priority, landed & delivered in one piece, tax and admin charges paid - total £380. Brought quite a bit in from USA over the last 6 years.

Check around, there are always low risk bargains from reputable sources to be found. Not much looking required really just a bit of patience.
Max.

Hehe!

I'm not actually looking for anything at the moment (though I've successfully bought several items from German eBay in the past) - I was just idly browsing through what was available, and was struck by the relative lack of LGB (on the UK site) compared with a few months ago. Simply wondered whether it was a seasonal thing or whatever.

Jon.

I get the distinct impression that ebay BIN sellers have simply assumed that ebay buyers are either stupid, lazy or both and will not be bothered to shop around for better prices. Its like they have assumed all ebay buyers are a "captive" audience with no alternatives, so they can charge whatever they darn well fell like charging. I have seen old Stainz' on there, with broken, missing pieces, being offered AS IS, at like new prices, shear madness!

Another strange dealer. Some items bargains, some laughable.

Not the only one. This "bargain" is still on offer. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200689100475?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Be aware that he wasn't impressed with my offer of £39.50, which is a shame since after that was refused I bought the identical article from German eBay for £38.70 including postage!

He has another item on as well its double Dragons BN price
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200689029527?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
I have bought an item from this chap it was brand new in the box
but with a small part missing.
Spoke to him on the phone, really pleasent and helpfull chap offered
a full refund instantly or he will try to source the missing piece
It is actually a car repair business but they sell on e-bay to supliment
the business.
Nearly all his stock is bought by a relative in USA and shipped over by the
container load.
Off E-bay he can offer some good deals, try phoning him.
I def will when train fund is topped up again, lack of ice and snow not
helping at the moment though :impatient:

One of the older-build USA (C&S) Moguls has just gone on Evil.....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260954011964?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

And there's another one that finishes tomorrow (2119D - looks like a newer version) ......

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250987337607?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

The C&S is the older version (2019S) but according to our Colonial colleages' Forum, it's prone to stripping it's gears ? What about the newer ones, did they modify the design ?
