I've seen both split and bottom plate style motor blocks with the metal rods. They all work well, the split one just more difficult to open for inspection and lubrication.

Quite, till Pete gets it we will not ne able to tell exactly which it will be. But either way if well loved and from the view of it we have it looks looks it has been, then it should be a good little runner.
