Viaduct - Seemed like a good idea at the time

Thanks folks. A couple of photies now it`s been weathered

Yes, I know it hovers above the ground - trying to decide whether to leave it like that (to prevent damp) or whether to cement in some footings

excellent
some 6mm grit would disguise the hover and allow drainage

For my twopennyworth, those edges are where all manner of grasses and weeds would grow, but don't ask me how you could model that, I'm certainly not the expert, . . . . . I reckon you are!

That's a good idea. Worth thinking about. Of course, if I did leave it out all year, in my garden it would soon gather moss....

I wish ......! Like everyone else, I just muddle my way through.
None of my models bear very close scrutiny.

Just droolable. great skill and even greater patience!

Or you could just put some Alpine Grit round the base, would work fairly well for Drainage and take away that Floating Look.

I did consider that, but I tried Cuprinol on another plywood project and that delaminated after a couple of years. I wondered if the Cuprinol contributed to the delamination by attacking the glue ???

I made mix of sump oil and diesel and stood the ply in it and let the wood soak it up, that was 6 years ago and it had nothing else done to it. It was laid on the ground as abase for a homemade point it is still OK but rot is starting set in now.
Maybe a bi annual treatment would work.

I used sump oil and creosote and mine fell apart (de-laminated) in about 3 years. :'( I think it pays to use the best plywood, i.e. marine. External and "Far Eastern" (?) just doesn't cut it. Ground conditions must also have a lot to do with it, mine was able to breathe so should have been reasonably dry. I've now remade using plastic soffit board.

For 'tufts' of grass either sticking out of buildings or around their bases, I have used the stuff from these guys:
http://www.magistermilitum.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=grass

Different sizes and colours, easy to stick on (with waterproof glue such as 'Serious Glue' by Evostick or waterproof super glue by Gorilla) and with a few coats of matt varnish like 'Testors Dulcote', they stay there even after rain etc... and ...do not fade!
