Wellingborough and Finedon Iron stone railway Peckett

I thought you might be interested in an update on my latest build. As an Eight year old in 1966, my father would take me to Wellingborough a town nine miles north from us to watch the Ironstone railway move ore between Finedon and Wellingborough. The metre gauge line was and serviced by three Peckett saddle tanks. I have fond memories of Peckett 2029 number 87 the largest of the three locomotives as the driver allowed me to ride the footplate and traverse the entire system a number of times. Happily all three engines are preserved at the Irchester ironstone railway museum in Northamptonshire.

The idea for the build first came to mind when I purchased an old 0-6-0 chassis with a Bassett Lowke motor earlier in the year, following a visit to the museum and with the help of the trust members I was allowed access to 87 to take dimensions and photographs.

Model construction started with the main material Styrene sheet. With the saddle tank formed from Styrene ducting.

Nice job, a rivet counters delight!

But I think you may have linked to the wrong Vid. Perhaos to another Pecket you have built. Looks like an 0-4-0 in the Vid to me. Most certainly a different Loco as there is no Coal Bunker on the one in the Vid.

Thanks for the heads up, yes you are quite right this should be the one.

Brill nice Vid, only 2 more to build now!
That your line or a Club one somewhere?

Jeremy

That would be a great bit of scratch built modelling in any scale. In G Scale it is rare and wonderful. Keep up the excellent work.

Reading your posts again you never mentioned how it works. I imagine it is Battery?

Thanks for all the comments, she uses a Planet radio 2.4 Gb mounted in the tank along with a 12V 2600mAh flat 5x2 AA NiMH Battery Pack and Viper speed controller, I will also fit a Myloco sound card.
The cylinders are brass fabrications with brass slide bars and crossheads

Jon, The line in the second video is at Delapre Park - Northampton Society of Model Engineers, the first video of the 0-4-0 is my line, changed a bit since that was taken.

Outstanding modelling as usual Jeremy - keep up the good work, I look forward to your build posts!

Be fascinated to see how you make your motion. Looks very well engineered.
