wilson 55 LGB lots at the moment

Those LGB Red Mallets are quite rare and very desirable. Do you mind if I ask how much you paid for that in the end?
Jon, the hammer price on the red mallet was £500.

Morning all……yes that’s right…just over £600 with commission. I know they only made 200 of these so I knew I might need to stretch the wallet….in fact it‘s damn well screaming at the moment . Luckily I already have the Blue Orient express and Brown Continental Mallets.
I think it will be awhile before we see another sale like that again with so much stuff.

So just the green and black ones needed to complete the set?

So.....now I know why my bid didn't make it for the zugspitze loco set.......lol. I did get the Mixnitz-St. Erhard set though.
As you say, the items are like new. I spoke to the Auctioneer who valued the LGB items this morning when I collected my items. The collection was from a local widow which was stored away in a loft for some time after her husband passed away. It would appear the garden was very small so not likely that a railway would of been running. Maybe the gentleman was just an avid collector. Its a sad fact of life that most collections appear in auctions following such a sad time.
After watching 'Scouting for Toys' about the Vectis auction house, I will be leaving their details for my wife just in case.........don't get me wrong.......I have no plans on going anywhere just yet you understand!! If you have a collection worth £5000+ Vectis informed me that they would collect, which would be one less thing for family to worry about. Now all I have to do is sell some of my other LGB items to pay for this new lot:oops::rofl:

Bless that lady, I hope she got some appreciation of the value her husband had amassed in the loft ! I know it really riles my Mother that her collection of dolls houses are worth 20p and a packet of frazzles but my dad sold his stuff back to the shop he got them from for a really decent price when they downsized.

Wow still good value for such a rare beast. I saw one at the G Scale meet in Rugby one year but had no means on me to buy it. Forgot Cq book!

The hammer prices realised at this auction certainly knock on the head the idea that LGB, even in good nick, is a sound investment.
This isn't a swipe at the buyers - good for you - but by the time house commission and other charges are deducted, what on earth sort of prices did the poor seller get?
Smug mode: Were there really only 200 red Mallets produced? I have one, and only bought it because it looks pretty on the xmas tree layout...

Good question, just had to look this up myself, The Seller will get the hammer price minus a selling fee Usually around 15% + Vat) , The buyer has to pay a commision (25% of hammer price with wilson55, 35% with thesaleroom.com) Plus VAT on this on the hammer price . so if you buy a lot for £100 the seller gets £82. The buyer PAYS £130, The Auction house gets £40 and the Vat man get £8.

Does anyone know how many Zugspitzbahn sets were produced ?

Multiply that by 5 for that red mallett, I like the VAT mans bit for doing nowt. 5x8 plus whatever the calculation for the auction houses bit, nice money if you could get it.

I must admit, I have never considered the auction houses..

How long before you can see what things went for?

Bit late on this one: I just got a load of G scale buildings, track & 2 locos from an auction in Newbery near Oxford . I asked for a price on P&P, They wanted £120 inc vat. I emailed them & said i can get a pallet picked up & dropped off for £44, But that's what they wanted. So i said i will pick it up & wile i was south i would pop in & see some friends in NW London. So, for a day out & treat 2 friends "3 of us" to a to a pub lunch & drink, plus 325m in fuel for the car came to £92.00 saving £28.00. Thanks to SAS Auctions in Newbery. :) If you want to get emails to let you know whats for sale in many auctions, the sale room is a good place to sign up to & put a few searches in & ask for emails on your searches. Its all free LINK I think there is a lot of G gauge coming up soon on the continent, but not sure on shipping prices from the EU. Might be to expensive.
PS: This auction was over 2 days & rail related with about 1500 items & about 25% G scale.

maybe we need an "upcoming auctions" forum section ? people can then get in their before the retailers buy up and over inflate prices. cough cough mods ?
