[size=12pt]Seeing the Wonky Wangeroo post reminded me of an issue I have with a 45mm gauge axle or to be more specific one wheel on an Accucraft van. Because they have a rigid chassis these vans have a slightly greater tendency to derail especially when pushed through a facing point and I had noticed that this particular van was prone to wobbling at certain parts of the track. It wasn't particularly bothersome and so I did nothing until a couple of days ago when I wanted something to give me the correct height to fit a chopper coupling on a new Swift Sixteen van kit I was finishing. When I placed it on the track I noticed that it rocked when I touched different parts of the roof. Out came the digital calipers which showed that three of the wheels have a diameter of 24.64mm or thereabouts but one is 24.87mm. Not a lot I can do about it though. I have checked several of the other Accucraft stock I have but they all seem to be OK

It isn't worth it for just the single axle, I will try swapping it onto a bogie coach, they have some 'give' in them.

If it's as obvious a fault as that, I'd have thought Accucraft would just replace the axle if asked.

Yes that is probably the simplest solution, it saves me removing a second axle on the bogie coach, assuming they are the same diameter.

Yes I do have them probably buried in the loft - if you can bury something in a loft!!!! Yes they do come off I think Swift Sixteen use Accucraft wheels and it is necessary to remove and refit one wheel per axle to fit the bearing tube.
Good idea.
That gives me 4 options.

Packing the axle guard is NOT an option because the wheels are a different diameter. Yes it will stand straight, but it won't roll straight, because the circumference is also different, so it will roll further each turn than its pair, and try to steer the truck. One of the reasons for the de-railments.

Occasioinally 45mm wheel-sets come up for sale on Evilbay.

Did you keep the 32mm wheelsets Keith? You could measure one of them and swap the undersize wheel. I seem to remember someone said you can just tap the wheels off the axles?

They pull off easily enough and push back on :bigsmile::bigsmile:
