A Ballerina's Face Lift

Whats that carbuncle on the rear of the bunker - a speaker grill?. I'd fill that with filler if i was doing the amount of work you are.

I have my car filler at the ready! just waiting to do a few filling jobs at the same time.

Excellent.

What is the hight difference between these two locos? Do you have any side by side pics. I have converted my Newqida into a 2-10-2

Do not have a side by side image of the different types, but pics below show the height to be pretty similar. As do the outline drawings in my Scheers and Wall book. It is fair to assume that the overall height of both types would be pretty similar as they would be built or modified in some cases to match the Loading Gauge of the 2 Harz Systems which is probably defined by the Tunnel going up to the Broken. Overhead Bridges what few of them there are would also be to a size that would define the maximum height on both types.

Thanks for the image's, I had to base my build off of images of the LGB 20811 and others. I was able to find some spare parts for it as well, but I'm sure I'm off slightly here and there, there was nothing I could do to change the wheel size since I used the newqida drive system. Until I own a real one or get to see one in person I can only guess.

That's quite a conversion Mike, nice job. I can see why you are having a "bash" given the price of HSB 2-10-2Ts. The prototypes of the 2-10-2T and 2-6-2T have the same driving wheel diameter of 1000mm. Their heights were the same at 3.65m. At least according to Wikipedia.

An impressive conversion job, Mike - did you find and use an actual LGB 2-10-2 boiler and smokebox assembly? All the boiler-top fittings look like the "proper" parts. The whole job looks very effective - any more photos of it from different angles?

Jon.

The boiler was made out of pvc pipe, I found the smoke box, chemical box, the two pumps on either side and a couple of other small parts from Train-li and another site. Most of everything else was kit bashed from the newqida loco or scratch built. The entire rear past the cabin is all scratch built as are the water tanks, I even had to make a split/swivel chassis like the original has to get around the curves. The skylight is all scratch built also. Most of all the piping was hand bent out of brass rod, there are a few pieces I recycled from the newqida. I was able to find an lgb 20811 base Wichita everything is mounted to. That was the only way to get the dimensions close.

Superb bash, so using 6001 bits as a donor and Dave says the measurements of Wheels are the same and the Height stacks up as I suggested. The overall height of 6001 is in my SnW book but so small as to be unreadable but I have to say it did look like 3.65m. Interestingly that book also has plans for the other standard Locomotives that were to follow 6001 as a group standard a little like the BR Standards if you like. A 2-8-2 and a 2-10-2 were both planned for the Metre Gauge both having distinct family lines to 6001, looking rather different than the 2-10-2 beast that we are used to storming up the Broken with.

Just caught up with your post Mick, haven a photo to hand, but the 2-6-2 is only around a few mill lower, as Jon says, I think the high of the prototype 2-10-2 is 12'6" and 2-6-2 around 12'4". Will check and let you know tomorrow, very inspiring post, grey matter now in over driver, 2-10-2 at a tenth of the price, what' not to like :)

The diameter of the wheels are the same on the ORIGINALS Jon. Keep up!

That really is an astonishingly good job, Mike! The only thing that gives it away at a casual glance is the lack of connecting rods to the rear two wheelsets - have you got any plans to fit anything there?

Jon.

Did not like to mention that Jon!

Have to say it is quite a beast, did you have much problem converting one of the donor Chassis to a 4 wheel one?
I made an additional 4 wheel chassis that pivots just like the one on the 20811, when I get off work today I will lay it on its side and take a photo and post it
